It was a bright morning in Romania in 1705. People rushed into the streets with smiles on their faces;
"Another vampire-less night!" one called in their native tongue.
"Congratulations!" another high ranked person grinned and people started to have conversations with the people around them.
Madalina grumbled and reached to pull the sheet covering her window tighter. "It's only morning and they're already so loud?!"
Soon she heard a knock on her door, "Miss Madalina? Are you here? Are you ok?" and when she didn't answer quite fast enough for them, she heard them shout, "She's been killed!"
"Oh, crud!" Madalina gasped, suddenly wide awake as she rushed to her front door and called out, "No! I'm alive, I'm well! I was only sleeping!" she repeated until the hysteria stopped.
"Ok, clear." the man said and the crowd seemed to fall into the distance, away from her house.
She turned to the boy and girl sleeping on the floor near her bed and sighed, "They didn't even wake up after all of that racket... Well, yesterday they did have a tough night.." she said to herself, pulling her dark red hair into a ponytail and laying back down to sleep until dark.

The girl glared at the boy, waking up. "Stop pushing me in your sleep! I don't like being near the sun, you know!" She yelled at her brother as the boy rolled his eyes.
"We're vampires, stupid, we ALL don't like the sun. You're so stupid, Cal," he said, rolling his eyes. "Now quiet, or you'll wake Madalina."

"I'm already awake" Madalina sighed, "But we'd all better go back to sleep until night. We've got another big day...I mean, night...ahead of us."

"Doing what?" the dark haired girl asked.
The boy sighed. "What we always do, Cal. God," he ran his fingers through his pitch black hair. "You're so stupid."

"Someone came knocking on our door thinking we were dead or something, you know, 'cause we didn't come out with the other people once the sun rose." she bit her lip, "We should sleep..after all, we will probably have to move tonight. It's not safe here any longer." she whispered, looking over at her little five year old sister who was sleeping at the foot of her rundown bed. Like Calico and Jamie, her parents had also been lost and never found at sea years ago; this was how they all met and how they all later met the same vampiric fate.

"I hate moving," Calico whined. "it involves so much moving and I hate going far places."
"Excuse her," Jamie replied, hitting his sister on the head. "She lacks common sense. She doesn't know what could happen if we get caught."

Madalina raised an eyebrow, "It's not like we have many belongings besides the clothes on our backs and a change of clothes..."
"Sun fall?" her 5 year old sister Rubie asked, rubbing her eyes.
"No, go back to bed" Madalina whispered, raising her finger to her lips, "Let's sleep."
Hours later, people returned to their homes, locking their doors and setting up the popular vampire repellents up around their window sills and such.
Madalina yawned and reached over to light a candle.

"Time to what?" Rubie asked, jumping on the bed, "Time to play?"
"Get down!" Madalina panicked, "We can't ruin this bed or the person we're renting from will charge us! And, no, I'm sorry sis, we're not going to play cards or dice, or anything...we're moving. It's too dangerous for us here."

"People will try to hunt us if they found out!" Jamie lectured Rubie. "They think we're freaks, and since we're different they'd tried to get rid of us."

Rubie frowned, her loosely curled platinum blond hair hung in front of her eyes, "I'm not a freak!"
"Hey, cheer up." Madalina frowned, grabbing Rubie and gently letting her down on the ground.

Rubie giggled, "Where we move to?"
Madalina looked at the others and shrugged, "We're just going to have to hurry up and pack our extra clothes and candles and go as far as we can for the night. We can find some kind of natural shelter once the sun is about to come up."
