I have to admit, the *wink wink nudge nudge* sometimes gets to me, if only because the refference that the KND episode itself is reffering too (from Monty Python) is actually sexual in nature. >XPPP Sort of ironic considering this thread. ~Regan Umm...how is it "sexual in nature?" The bit revolves around Eric Idle playing a skeevy, perverted man who is constantly trying to "nudge" Terry Jones - a straightup man who has no idea what he's talking about - into implying dirty things about his wife. Ex: "Does she.... "go?" You know what I mean? Wink wink, nudge nudge, say no more? She's been around a bit, been around?" ~Regan

Oh HOW much do I love that skit? So much. Right up there with the dead parrot, the spanish inquisition, the lumberjacks, and the ministry of silly walks. ♥

And as I mentioned, crime rates. Almost every gang member was some kid who was an accidental birth from a mother who got too wild one night and thought birth control would solve all her problems. And of course, these gang members get involved in crimes and the drug trade. ....OMFG WHAT. Are you SERIOUS? You are joking, right? I mean, nobody could possiably believe that statement is true. ~Regan I just did a search on Google for the topic of "why do kids join gangs?"[1] and, like it or not, the findings--including statements from qualified researchers--pretty much support my beliefs. To wit: One of the leading reasons kids join gangs is because of problems at home from disinterested (if not outright abusive) parents. It's human nature to ignore or be annoyed by something you didn't want in the first place (I doubt you can prove me wrong about that!) Therefore it isn't really much of a stretch of logic to say that the situation of disinterested/abusive parents would occur if the mother found herself pregnant with a child she didn't plan on having. And for the people who are vouching for birth control, I found many sites with statistics showing that even with birth control, 8 out of 100 users will still get pregnant, so no, birth control is not the fine, dandy, simple answer you guys want it to be. Whoa. You guys are really getting into this. Birth control? Kids joining gangs? I don't think the KND will get into anything like that. *wink wink nudge nudge*
But seriously, though.

To wit: One of the leading reasons kids join gangs is because of problems at home from disinterested (if not outright abusive) parents. I don't doubt that unhappy homelives contribute to destructive natures in kids. However, what in the world makes you assume that use of birth control automatically leads to all (or ANY) instances of unhappy homelives? It's human nature to ignore or be annoyed by something you didn't want in the first place (I doubt you can prove me wrong about that!) Therefore it isn't really much of a stretch of logic to say that the situation of disinterested/abusive parents would occur if the mother found herself pregnant with a child she didn't plan on having. Ignoring the fact that you're using assumptions as facts... That's a great arguement... FOR birth control. You don't seem to understand what it does. See... when people don't use planned parenting (condoms, birth control, etc), they may accidently become pregnant, thus producing the situation you just described. This sort of scenero is far FAR less common with couples who are taking preventative measures (birth control, condoms, abortions, etc). And for the people who are vouching for birth control, I found many sites with statistics showing that even with birth control, 8 out of 100 users will still get pregnant, so no, birth control is not the fine, dandy, simple answer you guys want it to be. Neither is ANYTHING really. Birth control is a choice and an option. Consider that condoms are between 85-88% effective, while varying forms of birth control are about 92 - 95%. Sure, abstinence will keep you 100% not pregnant, but the vast majority of couples in the United States will not go that route, and thus need a different way to prevent pregnancies. They should not be condemned for doing so, since they are being responsible adults who are planning ahead. PS this is my last time replying to this train of thought... if you want to continue the conversation, I reccommend making a thread in the Real Life section. ~Regan

Just a bit of personal info...I got pregnant on the Pill. BUT I was married, already had my son, and wanted another baby. I wanted to space my kids out a little further, but I just rolled with things.
Birth control isn't 100 percent foolproof, but it's better than pulling out. I was glad I had it...it worked for many years before I decided to have my son.
