Would this be an appropriate time to ask the 2/5 shippers of a favor? Well, I'll ask anyway. If it is a bad time, then ignore me. Why do you guys believe 2/5 would work? Be as detailed as you like. Oh! And please include why you believe 1/5 wouldn't work compared to 2/5. Just your opinions. Right or wrong, just opinions. That would be wonderful. Thank you so much. BTW: 1/5 Manifesto. That's why I'm asking this. ;;

Hmmm...I believe the best answer to that question would be FF's 2/5 Manifesto.

Post by Numbuh Googol on Jul 20, 2007 20:07:39 GMT
2/5 and 1/5 are some of my favourite couples, but 2/5 just happens to be my very favourite, which is why I ship it. To be honest I've never really compared them as such. But I'll explain how I got into the 2/5 couple, if it helps. Warning: this post may become a worryingly large essay. We'll see... It began with the two of them being my favourite duo in the show. I found myself being entertained by all their antics - be it fighting adults side by side, Numbuh 2 driving Numbuh 5 crazy with his puns, or both of them teasing Numbuh 4 about his feelings for Numbuh 3. One day (this was quite early in the show) I wondered, 'hmm... what if they ever hooked up?' But I didn't really know what would happen and didn't think too much of it. As time went on, I began to noticed 'connections' between them that really got me thinking. Or more to the point, hidden messages. The first thing I thought about was how they 'complete each other'. At first I just thought they were polar opposites, but that's not really true. For example, they both have a high status within the team (second in command, 2x4 tech officer, pretty important if you ask me!) and even though these two jobs are very different, the two of them together would create a very powerful duo not to be messed with! Also, they're both very smart, but in different ways. While Numbuh 2 is 'statistic-smart' Numbuh 5 is 'strategic-smart' (does that make any sense to you? *raises eyebrow in confusion*). Again, although these two things are different they would go well together. I believe Operation BEACH was when they first noticed Numbuh 4's crush on Numbuh 3. Although this was maybe a little bit cruel to Numbuh 4, teasing him soon became a common interest between Numbuhs 2 and 5! But the more they did it, the more I began to think about how fun the irony would be if they secretly liked each other all along, even though they were laughing at Numbuh 4 for crushing on another teammate. Now for hints that could mean the two characters might actually like each other... Numbuh 2 likes Cree - that's canon as we all know - which gives us an idea of what his type is. True, he's known to flirt with and romance a lot of girls, but his feelings for Cree seem to be a lot stronger than with any of the other girls in the show. This suggests to us what his type is, and whatever it is he likes about Cree... well Numbuh 5 actually has quite a lot in common with her sister, so she could very easily be his type too. The reason why Numbuh 2 might not flirt with Numbuh 5 is for the fact that they're teammates and already close friends, and he doesn't want their current relationship to be ruined. Numbuh 5 is known to reply to Numbuh 2's jokes and puns with an insult or a hat slap. So as far as her teammates know she doesn't approve of his sense of humour. But we know that isn't true. In CHOCOLATE we saw her use typical Numbuh 2 puns on Heinrich, while none of her teammates were present. And again in MAURICE (when her team wasn't around) Cree said to her, "Please don't say it's because I'm chicken," when she was about to use her chicken pox cannon. It was as if Cree was sick of Numbuh 5's puns. Numbuh 5 doesn't use these sort of lines in front of her friends - possibly because she thinks it will make her look uncool - yet she clearly appreciates this kind of humour. Also, in CLOWN it was revealed that her dad used to be a clown for a living, so maybe this 'sillyness' is in her genetics and she just chooses to hide it? Either way, she likes bad puns yet chooses not to let her teammates know. Only more recently (a few months before I got into the online fandom) Numbuhs 2 and 5 became canonly connected in a romance. In MAURICE it was revealed that both Numbuh 5 and Cree have a crush on Maurice, but bear in mind that Numbuh 2 still likes Cree. This has created an interesting love 'square', so to speak, and this is where the irony comes back in. It could be very entertaining for two operatives to be jealous of each other's crushes, only to actually end up together! I think the main reason why I prefer this couple to some of the other ones I like in the show is because it's not over-the-top romantic or too cutesy. It's fun and would probably be a bit crazy too, which makes such a nice change from the usual stuff you usually get in fictional romances. It's just something different. ... warned ya this was gonna be long. *gulps* Heh. Hmm... as for comparing it to 1/5... well I actually like 1/5 for the similar reason that they wouldn't act all overly-romantic and whatnot. However, for the sake that it's a TV show this might not be easy to get around. At least with 2/5, Numbuh 2 is romantic. With 1/5 neither of them are romantic, which might make it difficult for the writers to come up with interactions between them. So I think that should 1/5 happen, then it should happen right at the end of the show so that the writers do not get into this problem. I mean, I like the idea of them actually getting together but I'm not sure what would follow on from there really. And now I'll let someone else speak. *whew* ;D

They're a humorous couple. Like Googol said, not over-the-top romantic or too cutesy.

I'm new here.
Actually, I heard about 1/5 before 2/5, through fanart and fanfics. It seemed fun at the time, cause I really liked numbuh 1 and didn't really think he had any good freinds. Then, too, one of the first episodes I saw was operation ZOO, which I guess is a kinda 1/5 episode. Later, I became more familiar with 2/5, which might explain why I like it more. (Your own discoveries are always more fun than someone else's)
That said:
I started writing a 2/5 fanfiction a couple months ago (Operation SEPARATION, on FF), and it's actually interesting how the two interact. Hoagie is the intellectual who tries to be freinds with everyone by acting cool, and Abby is the cool girl who doesn't care much about the details. Then again, Abby is the more composed one who can think on her feet better, while Hoagie is more into figuring things out in labs, and gets flustered pretty easily. Hoagie follows, Abby leads. If you wanted to classify them, Hoagie is the head, and Abby is the heart (sorta). And, if you get picky, Abby has an older sister who she wanted to be like, and Hoagie has a younger brother who wanted to be like him.
All of which simply means that they are opposites, which doesn't necessarily mean they'd go together. But given 3 and 4's somewhat diametrically opposed natures, its not impossible.
And they do share some stuff. Both of them go in for humor (They just have very different ideas of it), both like to tease the others, and both are attached to numbuh 1
Kinda leads into why I don't think 1/5 works. I see the ideas, Both are leaders, but Abby is calm and Nigel is excitable. Nigel obsesses, while Abby reflects. And so forth.
But 1 is the leader. All the action happens around him, not necessarily to him. 2 and 5 work together to do things to him, they are his friends, and though you could say 5 is his best girlfriend while 2 is his best friend, as leader, Nigel needs to have a detachment from his teamates. I could see Abby liking Nigel, but not the other way so much. They are pretty similar, but again, that's not always the thing in Kids Next Door.
Then, for conflicts. 1 does not always appreciate what 5 does (ref:JEWELS, AWARDS) 2, while not quite overly grateful either, is better at it, and certainly more trusting (RABBIT, PIRATES, CLOWN). 5 does not put much stock or authority in what 1 says, rather seeming critical. (HOTSTUFF, BUTT, ZOO) While this can be good for him (GROW-UP), it wouldn't be so good in a relationship.

First off, Afalstein, welcome. And second, your reasons for thinking 2/5 could work and 1/5 couldn't? I couldn't agree with you more

Afalstein, speaking as a 1/5 supporter, I really appreiciate the maturity in your thorough reasoning. You're obviously very respectful towards other shippings. ^^ Welcome to the forum.

Um, Thanks!
Actually it mostly means I spend way too much time thinking over things that have NO bearing whatsoever on real life, but that's still great to hear. Thank you.
Flaming doesn't bother me, but it doesn't make a whole lot of sense either. Why get all upset over something that ultimately has nothing to do with anything? I guess I could see it if you support certain couples because you identify with them and take attacks on them as attacks on yourself, but that's kinda silly.
Does that make any sense at all?

I think that makes a lot of sense! And I agree. Shipping in cartoons is fun, but before you get carried away you do have to remember that it is all just fictional. And the best way to keep it fun is to not get too serious about things. And welcome to the forum, Afalstein! The teasing thing caught my eye. I just love watching them tease Wally about his feelings towards Kuki, and this was actually something that got me into 2/5. Like I mentioned earlier, I think it would be really cool if ironically Hoagie and Abby were teasing someone about a feeling that the two of them actually had for each other. It's not considered 'evidence' but it would be an interesting point for the writers to work off of.

You know, way back when I roamed the forums, 2/5 was a very popular couple. What happened? D:
I haven't even seen KND in such a long time.

The 2/5 fans are still around. We're just called "The 2/5 Social Club" now. ;D The thread was moved to Chat.
Since it's so close to the end of the series, we kinda ran out of things to discuss about H & A. We've already picked at most of the angles...UNLESS something new comes up in INTERVIEWS. Dunno at this point, since it's 3 months away.
