I agree; English dubbing totally spoils the character....though in Shikamaru's case he's pretty much the same. Naruto, Sasuke and Sakura were dragged through the dirt when it came to the English dub.
If you want to watch anime, always go for the Japanese versions; they not only cut everything out, but the storyline and the character's lines aren't tampered with

I honestly don't see that much wrong with the dub of Naruto. I especially like Naruto's voice.
Certainly this is better than most of ADV's English dubs (Devil Hunter Yohko... you haven't heard "bad dubbing" until you've heard the obligatory ten-year-old who sounds like she's thirty).

I was watching the marathon, then during Naruto's little speech to Gaara about friendship, my Mom went "Blechhh" and changed the channel. But I think I might start watching, I mean, the dub doesn't bother me, and I think I know enough about Naruto to jump in right about now, plus, all my friends like the show, and one of them already has watched all the subbed episodes on Youtube, so I think I'll start watching next week. Oh, I just started this really cool anime, Noein, it's really interesting, but I really don't know much about it. Since it's only 24 episodes, it's a good thing for me to watch over spring break. Then I'm going to watch Eureka Seven.

Oh man oh man I got really lucky with an anime purchase today. I was just browsing the shelves at Hastings (a book + video store/rental) and in the anime section I happened across Tekkaman Blade Collection 1 (those of you who lived in the US in the early-to-mid 90s might recognize this series under its alternate title, Teknoman). The collection itself includes 16 episodes of the original Japanese version. That they had it was not surprising. The real surprise was its price. $13.49. NEW. I bought it on the spot. I mean, 16 episodes of a brand-new boxed set for $13.49 is an unbeatable price by any standard (by comparison, Amazon.com wants $24.99 for it). Personally I don't remember much about the show, just that me and my sister and her friends used to watch it and I think we all loved it. I'll post actual comments on the show after seeing a few eps. I also rented Ghost in the Shell: Special Edition and the first volume of Stand Alone Complex.

Ooh, nice! There aren't any stores where I can buy anime... RAWR.
Oh, and Noein, as I watched it more, it's really good, and really pretty to look at. Though it gets a little complicated, but that's because it's about quantum physics and time travel, so it's understandable that me, a fourteen year old, wouldn't get a little of the weird, false technological speak. But yeah, it's about a bunch of kids (around 10-12) and a very complex plot with ghosts and Shinigami looking people, and a Dragon Torque... I love it so far, and I say again, very pretty.

Ghost Hunt.
Of course, I like spooky ghost shows, so naturally I'd like this.
Basically it's a team of people who specialize in the paranormal stuff (Mediums, psycics, exorcists, etc.) and they go on investigations when people think there's some paranormal stuff going on. And one investigation usually takes place over a few episodes(which is why it's nice to watch them all at once on youtube =D).

Yay! Well, I have seen episodes 1-3!
I think more eppies are coming out this june of this year. This next one will be: EP 4:"Dawn of a new era!"
I think I will watch The 1st 3 again on youtube.
And I might get either Diamond or Pearl tommorow, or next week, or maybe when i needed to.
(I FELT LIKE CATCHING A STARLY.)

I started reading Gravitation, and I can't see what all the hype is about yet. I'm about a third of the way through the second volume, and seems to me it's just every other shoujo manga, only instead of a jerkwad guy and whiny girl, it's a jerkwad guy and a whiny boy.
