It pays off, because the history teacher has the same route as me for a while, and it really helps because in 4 out of 5 days both me and him get out and it's already dark.

Every teachers friend...? thats weird...well because nobody really make friends with teachers....I like some teachers but I'm not their mates. a student giving the teacher advice...? Then again I'm good at computers and the teacher asks me for help sometimes or other students. I'm quite popular. =) Believe it or not, in my high school years I was friendly with many of my teachers. Honestly I hang out with the teachers more than I did the other students. I had to helpl one work a new type of VCR he had never seen before (that just happened to be a model similar to one I had at the time). In all honesty, my school was better than most. It makes me wonder why I'm so anti-school sometimes. That thing takes me to some conspiracy theory site that hurts my brain. A damn lot. Perhaps you'll like this site better. These guys aren't as extreme as John Taylor Gatto--they just want school to be less influenced by politics. Meh. The only thing the Internet teaches you is that the world is full of stupid people, and helps you develop a cynical sense of humour that makes you look better in real life. That may be true for some people, but it's all in how you use it. Sure, some people do nothing but read sorry political webcomics all day, but others of us use it properly--for research and information, and to express themselves. Also, most of the cynics I've crossed paths with were either high school or college students. There are plenty of unbiased and precise information sources on the internet. Snopes.com, Wikipedia, and Dictionary.com come to mind. That's an awfully big generalization. First off, not all jobs require you to graduate, or even go to school. Also, completing school in no way garuntees that you'll a better job than physical labor. Indeed, it doesn't promise that you'll get a job at all. You still have to work at finding work either way. School supporters feed you this fantasy that if you go through college you'll be an instant millionaire. That would be awesome if it were true, but usually what happens is that you're in debt for years afterwards because you have to pay off your student loans. My sister is in college now, and she's driving my family into the ground financially because she keeps having to borrow money for school-related things. I was homeschooled, and while I do ask for money, I tend to ask for tens whereas she requires thousands, and furthermore I always do some sort of labor in return, whereas she gets by because they have this fantasy that she'll graduate and be a highly-paid nurse (even though my sister never can make up her mind on what she wants to be *Sigh*). Secondly, not everyone who drops out spends all their time on the internet. Also, there are people who graduate (or who are in school/college) and yet spend all their free time on the internet. In fact, most of the people I've met who "don't have a life outside of the internet" are people who are currently in school. Being an on-liner isn't a trait that only develops in "life's failures." Personally, the biggest credit I give to school is that they taught me to read. That is about the only thing (besides math) I feel it really did for me. And yet, most of that I developed on my own. And when I began writing my own fiction, I had to develop that entirely on my own, so that by the time I got around to taking writing classes in college, I found them to be full of bull and largely useless. There's a lot of fairy tales purported about school. That it'll make you rich is one of them. Another I hear a whole lot is that school teaches you how to be social. I can say safely that it may be true for someone out there, but it certainly was not true for me... in fact, I was an arrogant, anti-social jerk until about two months ago. Three members of this forum tried to tell me that a long time ago, but I was too stubborn to listen. Most of the best lessons I learned in life, I had to hear first, and had to understand later.

I so want to kill the government. They only assigned 3.9% of the budget to education, whereas Euro standards require 6%. The teachers were on strike, but not in my school. They deserve nothing, those in my school. And I happen to know this guy who is a mayor, and doesn't know to... what's the word... conjugate? the verb 'to be'. And in some countries, idiots are paid more than those who learned something at school.

What, he can't conjugate to be in Romanian or English?
And I agree with everything James said,

Romanian. Poor idiot... He finished high-school while he was Mayor... and none of his yearly averages were over 7.5. He's also got an idiotic face, and he said he could learn English in 6 months.

Despite my admiration for those arguments (and i doubt I can do the same as for diapproving/defending school ), let me express my disapproval: obviously not all jobs need graduations, but don't you think it would give you more possibilities? Sure, some extremely responsible and intelligent people could have a job and learn totally by themselves/internet/books without being...how do we all call that..."brainwashed". But that doesn't mean that totally without high school, you would be able to get the job you've always dreamt about. You may get a job, might be even a well-paid job, but is that really what you would like? Besides, you don't get any less intelligent when you get out of school...however sometimes, you don't get any more (...I'd rather people not to quote this sentence, since it doesn't make to much sense). Not that it GUARANTEES you anything like eternal glory or money, but is already sets you on some basics that allow you to reach for something more, if you work (what a dorky argument -_-), have luck and some money. And finally about that social thing: true, being home-schooled or simply not going to school doesn't make anyone a blatant antisocial freak. As much as being an internet geek doesn't ruin your life. I'd like to put a ''but'' here, but I don't have anything to say.

Well...i suppose it's good to learn stuff and all that.. But i really can't stand homeworks! (alright, i have to but you get what i mean.) I mean, if we're stuck in school the entire days, shouldn't we get some rest at home then? It's sick..

How much do you stay in school? I stay 6 hours a day. No lunch.

No lunch? Must be quite tough :/ I stay 8 hours a day, sometimes 7, with an hour of lunch. But on Wednesday I stay 10 hours, with an hour lunch. I'll say that my average school day is from 8 a.m to 4 p.m, meaning 8 hours.

My average school time is 12PM-6PM. 31 classes a week, 50 minutes class, 10 break. No lockers, a carry-your-books-and-noteboks-and-stuff system, and the food I get is at 6pm, so I get quite fat.

Snopes.com, Wikipedia, and Dictionary.com come to mind. Snopes.com isn't really educational or useful, it's just fun to browse. Wikipedia IS a nice site, minus the "being able to freely edit it" thing. And Dictionary.com has its fair share of mistakes.

While it's true that at least 1/3rd of the content Snopes has is inconsequential trivia, the other 2/3rds is stuff like medicine, biology, history, proving or disproving rumors about food poisonings and other such health/safety concerns, etc. Knowledge that could be applied practically to real life. I'd call that pretty educational.

i think its imoral and abuse, for children to be forced to go to school, we have no choice, we are forced to do things we dont want to do, our childhood is supposed to be the best time of our lives and we are wasteing 5 days a week of it in a boring classroom while a complete stranger yells at you for chewing in class or something, but what i want to know is does anyone else agree with me ;D well I do agree A BIT only. You sound exactly like a small kid xD...not that's a bad thing. Who DIDN'T bitch about school in their lives? Each school has its major flaws (heh, mine is currently in construction and we still go to it) but the concept is necessary. Without it, you wouldn't be able to post this since you coudn't write nor read. Honestly, I've grown over this whole "ONGZ SKOOL SUXORZ LOLLL!!" and still have 2 years to spend in school however I still complain about some facts getting real annoying. So yeah, school: Awful taste. But it works. i hate school. My changes: Principals Food Teachers 3 hours a day No homework Advanced Classes for students who learn ahead.......(it get's SO boring.........) Cameras. Why do we need to do work ALL day and then have to take work home? None of my teachers care if i have lots of homework, it S-U-C-K-S. My brother's teacher is worse though. He said "I don't care if you leanr or not, i still get paid" That screams out "OMG THIS GUY SHOULD BE A HERMIT IN ALASKA!" if he's gonna tell studentys he doesn't care about anything but his money. Greedy fatasses.......................and why do they force u to eat if you aren't hungry? ? And what is the importance of anything for Catholics if they believe they go to heaven if they do pennance? Yes, i find many flaws, i could spend 50 hrs. thinking them up, but i'm too lazy and my mom would kill me for staying up that late. EDIT: My Principal is a huge fatass, we are the richest school in my city, AND WE HAVE BROKEN WATERFOUNTAINS! I see tons of public schools with buses, AND MY PRINCIPAL SAYS WE CAN'T AFFORD THEM. Is that not screwed that we're the richest school in my city and we can't even afford a school bus system? Our tuition is WAY OVER-PRICED(i'll just call it that, thank you) it's like $12,000 WITH a scholarship form 2 churches AND the school itself. That;s is totally and unimaginable screwed for an elementry school to be that much for re-learning what you learned 2 years ago(the only new thing i've learned in the past 5 years is: Probability and that Mt. Everest borders Napal and China)
