1) Why should Zim be on Adult Swim?! Adult Swim is where Cartoon Network puts all their programming that has more blood, swearing, or sexual content than normal (i.e. animé with fewer cuts than they would have if it were aired in the afternoon). You know, the stuff they can't show during the afternoon. Why should Invader Zim be there?! It's rated Y7! If Cartoon Network did air it, it would make much more sense to air it with the rest of their "normal" programming. Ah, but whether it deserved a Y-7 rating is debatable. Listen carefully to the background noise just after Gir departs the Raver Girl's car in Saucer Morons, and you'll hear a crash and horrible screaming. In the DVD commentaries, Jhnonen and pals gleefully explain that the girls crashed and all died. Throughout the eppisode, they comment on when injured people stop moving. I never noticed it before- but this is a Y7 with a body count. Abnormal, indeed. A lot of footage had to be cut to get it from Jhonnen's NC-17 brain to Nick's Y7 standards. Filmed footage. Filmed footage someone probably has. I'm guessing that were it to be purchased by Adult Swim, they'd a) remaster them back into orriginal form so as to catch the attention of preexisting fans and b) let Jhonen, who kinda wants to last I heard, do more eps (and Invader Dib, the tv movie supposed to finish off the series) in a fashion more consistant with his style. By wich I mean al la Johnny. By which I mean Rx2. Not that this will ever, ever happen- the tight fisted Nickelodeon punks are not that kind, and would never want associated with a show gone renegade. But we han hope a feeble hope that Zim, like Family Guy, despite being cancled and dismissed by it's orriginal network, will sell so well it'll be brought back and purchased by people who will give the creators more freedom. A scant hope, but not without precedent. About the unreleased episodes: what you won't see on the fast approaching second DVD, you will probably find at Room With a Moose- home of scripts and completed audio for eps Nick aborted like sad little foetuses. www.roomwithamoose.com/closet/Try the script and audio to Mopiness of Doom if you, like me, think ZADR rawks despite Jhonen being 'ill to his ill-prone belly' over it.

In the DVD commentaries, Jhnonen and pals gleefully explain that the girls crashed and all died. Throughout the eppisode, they comment on when injured people stop moving. I never noticed it before- but this is a Y7 with a body count. Abnormal, indeed. There's one important thing here: You don't actually see the death or KNOW for sure (at least based on the show) they die. That's a crucial distinction. And in the original series you didn't hear the commentary or anything. And by the way, there are Y7 shows where you actually see people get killed, so it's not really fair to dismiss the Y7 rating just because it has "a body count". Of course, said killings are usually not graphic at all. It's true many Y7 shows don't seem to have actual deaths, but Invader Zim is not alone. When you say "Rx2" do you mean the rating "R"? Because, even on Adult Swim, they don't allow that. Oh, sure, you can get away with SOME swearing and stuff, but never anything higher than TV-14. And why does Zim need to be like that in the first place? The show just seems so much more "correct" at Y7. If they suddenly added swearing and more realistic violence, then, at least in my opinion, the show's quality would go down. Of course, if they continued with Zim on Cartoon Network, it would probably have to have a somewhat different crew and cast, meaning that the show would probably be quite a bit different. But Fox is different than Nickelodeon. A bunch of their shows are on other networks. Like The X-Files. It's shown on Sci-Fi now. They also show Digimon (originally shown on Fox Kids) on Toon Disney. And yeah, then there was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, also shown on Cartoon Network. Same with Futurama. That's not true with Nickelodeon.

I've heard it was cancelled for the gross topic choises for eps, such as ORGAN TRANSPLANTS, PIMPLES, ETC... Well, KND has its own share of "grossness". There was T.O.M.M.Y., P.I.N.K.E.Y.E., G.R.A.D.U.A.T.E.S... I really don't think Zim is too "bad" to be shown at normal times, but I do think it is "not bad enough" for Adult Swim (and when I say "bad", I mean in terms of inappropriate content, not quality of the show). Though I do concede Zim is in the "upper" limits of Y7.

I've heard it was cancelled for the gross topic choises for eps, such as ORGAN TRANSPLANTS, PIMPLES, ETC... Yeah, but I loved Dark Harvest and The Rise of Zitboy. Although I usually hate gross-out humor, this way right up my alley. It wasn't gross just to be gross - it was gross with a purpose. Which just made it brilliant. And, admittedly, twisted. XD Dib: Um, I think I have a pencil lodged in my brain. Ms Bitters: How far in your brain? Dib: ...pretty far. ZIM: This is my friend Pustulio. He is from...another place.

I LOVED Invader ZIM. <3 Still do!
*hugs ZIM* ZIM was my favorite in the show. I love him to itty bitty bits. I liked GIR too, but I liked ZIM more for some reason.
I have the episodes on my computer.
"Father Unit: C'MON SON, LET'S GO PLAY IN THE TOILET!"
"ZIM: Watch, Dib! Watch as I bring a royal audience to the downfall of the human race! Dib: I don't wanna watch that... ZIM: Oh, okay.. WAIT! That's too bad! Because man kind ends NOW! And to make it even sweeter, I'll land The Massive right on top of your landing-pad-sized-monster-of-a-head which is disturbingly large! Dib: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOANDQUITMAKINGFUNOFMYHEADAAAAHHHHHH!!!"

And yeah, then there was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, also shown on Cartoon Network. Same with Futurama. That's not true with Nickelodeon. Dude, I'm not saying it's not a Y7, I don't dismiss the rating and you are right about the distinction inherent in KNOWING they're dead. That it's pushing the envelope for Y7 and does some things inconsistant with its rating is not disputable, however. Nick certainly worried about it crossing the line- it's probably one of the biggest reasons for its cancelation. Besides, Adult Swim has other not-so-terrible shows like Inu Yasha- which could totally be shown duing normal hours. I just feel showing Zim would be more in the spirit of Adult Swim than normal play hours. Vasquez's humor is very subversive. The 'Rx2' was a joke from the pilot, wherein a little illustration announced Zim was determinedx2 (times two). The R was hyperbole- I don't actually expect anyone involved to air a really graphic show. But I AM sure that Jhonen would act to, as usual, push the envelope of what he was allowed to do. And why would quality necessarily decline because of that? More creator control generall equals more satisfying final product. His comic books are quality, and they're VERY realistically violent. The creator's highly acclaimed 'Jhonny the Hommicidal Maniac' is good stuff. I also challenge you to find three pages together without truly ickily drawn crawling bugs, mysterious blood stains on the wall, horrible bloodshot eyes, curse words, messy murder or torture. Quality and Clean-Cutness are not necessarily correlated. Like I said- the Cartoon Netwoork thing probably won't occur, and the 'revived by DVD' thing also probably won't occur. That's why I, as I mentioned, feebly hope rather than expect. Neither proposition is COMPLETELY out of the realm of possibility. Just super-unlikely.
