Both are good, but romance is more interesting, a long s it isn't slash! This comment hurts me deep inside. Slash is wonderful. And it's my anti-drug. D: Love > Friendship Because love conquers all ^_^ Woah, woah. One isn't more important than the other. Balance, people. Everything in moderation. B-b-but I CAN'T take romance in moderation T_T

Now, now, to each their own. Some people just don't like slash, is all.
Me, I always prefer friendship. In fact it's the 2/5 friendship that's always the most fun. Romance, if it happens, is merely a bonus.
As for fics I want story first, ICness second and comedy third. Romance is not very high on the list and if it is done it must be done with care and restraint. Turn it into a fluff-fest and I'm clicking the back button faster than you can say Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis.
Note that the above doesn't apply to one-shots and, of course, any fic containing a hot tub. 'Cause hot tubs are, well, hot tubs. Gotta love 'em.

So you're saying you'd read a 1/5 fanfic including hot tubs? If so, I cannot deny a friendadversary's desire. About the topic- well, sometimes the friendship between two people can be more interesting than the romance. It just depends on the people. I'm a sucker for romance, though, so I gotta say I like it too. I suppose Nella is right about having a balance.

I'm a sucker for romance, I'll admit. I like it a lot, but I also like friendships just as much. I guess I'm just in the middle or something, I like them both equally.

People have different sides of them. Some are sensetive to the romance side, and some do not care for it as much as others. I consider myself queen of all romance in the GoldenFlither world! Honestly.. I have my own world. And in my world, everybody wears pink, and are in love.
I admit, I am insane. *wink wink nudge nudge*

Everyone in pink and in love.
Doesn't sound so bad. XD

Yes, now that I think about it, I like friendship, too...perhaps a balance really IS necessary

Of course it is. In fact, friendship is the relationship you must have with someone to even be in love, afterall. I mean, how weird would it be if you weren't comfortable around the person you love? I think the reason people should ever fall in love is because of one word. Drumroll! * drrr...* Trust! That's right, folks. Trust. Through my words, "The key to love is trust."

Yes. First friendship and then hopefully it will turn into love. ;D

Hmm... It's a tie. I like romance when it comes to my favorite couples, but I also like seeing them acting friendly with each other too. It's a foundation for their relationships. ^^ And I absolutely love friendship between some of the KND kids. Like I love 4 and 5's friendship. I don't ship them, but their interaction is cute.
And I don't think the key to love is trust. Trust is just one of the bumps on the key; what about attraction, friendship, honesty, common grounds, etc. etc.?

The best romances were great friendships first. I've been around a while. I've seen and experienced enough to make this statement.

Turn it into a fluff-fest and I'm clicking the back button faster than you can say Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis. We share the same standards ^__^ Well, almost. I search for "Doesn't Suck" first and don't search for romance at all. Actually, I don't read a lot of fanfics, because most of them suck, especially the ones everyone likes. And the reason they suck is because near every last one of them let's whatever plot they have get side-tracked so they can play up a favorite pairing. That's just stupid! Imagine if Tom Clancy did that. "Oh, this novel is supposed to be about Jack Ryan's first experience with terrorists, but I'll let that get side-tracked so we can have twenty chapters of him getting lovey-dovey with his future wife!" I personally don't see a huge difference between Slash and Het. The stories are almost exactly the same except for the romantic preferences of the characters--you could rewrite a het romance into a slash just by taking out the lead female romantic interest and replacing her with a male, in most cases. Both are equally boring.
