All I'll say is this whole gosh darn thing is Very Very SillyTM, but Stardrifter has the final word.
If we have to bleep out sh*t and f*ck, fine. Write them with the asteriks. Write friggin' or flippin' as alternatives to the f-word. I do that all the time.
I still don't see any need to bleep damn or ass.
And don't ask me why p*ss and t*ts are on the Big Bad List. The FCC is not on my Most Favorite Government AgencyTM list. Don't even get me started on the Janet Jackson nipple controversy. God forbid kids see boobs when only half the world's population has them...
(Whoops, I said nipple...should that be bleeped, too?)

You know, there IS a censored word thingum on Proboards. That'd take responsibility off the members who dont' read this thread, or just don't swear enough to know when to censor it.

Free speech means the right to yell "Theater!" in a crowded fire.--Old hippie proverb ;D I tired looking and for the life of me, I can't find the filter. I do remember that it used to work leading to the memorable occasion when Fluffles enjoined the forum stuff to suck rooster. Quite a day that was.

Under the Admin section, last column, under Restrictions, there should be a link to Censored Words.
Unless you can't mess with that. Then it won't be there.

The FCC kindly wrote a rather famous list of words which is what I meant when I wrote the obscenity clause. I didn't know about this list, and it wasn't linked to or referenced in the rules. It's also irrelevent. People know the difference between using the words as an example to clarify the point of discussion, and using the words as explicatives in a normal conversation. Last time I talked to Stardrifter, she specifically singled out "ass" as an obscene word. Personally, I'm more surprised by the counter-fuss, the "Why the heck do you even bring this up?" from the other members who are acting like its not a problem. It's a legitimate issue, and one that has been raised before. To wit, this is a forum for a kid's show. KND itself does not cuss, and I'm pretty sure most members come here expecting the same sort of cleanliness from a fan community.

Don't see how you can come to that conclusion, since the members are the ones doing the swearing.

The FCC kindly wrote a rather famous list of words which is what I meant when I wrote the obscenity clause. I didn't know about this list, and it wasn't linked to or referenced in the rules. It's also irrelevent. Well since it is the legal definition of obscene in the country you live in I though it might be...ah...relevant? Also if *I* know about it from halfway across the world I assumed actual honest-to-goodness Americans (i.e. you) would too. Now this is irrelevant. If you are offended by a sequence of letters and/or phonemes then you are offended by them. Their context is irrelevant. If you take context into consideration why not accept them as everyday interjections? The issue was never about the words being used in anger, after all, since mods would react and there is a much clearer rule about flaming. If you'll forgive me, I'll delay action until the admin speaks for herself. Also, I am puzzled: you recently had discussions re: profanity with our forum founder? Why exactly? If Stardrifter felt so strongly about it, why didn't she say anything to the mods? Well, looking around it appears people feel that it is not an issue. I repeat: I agree that a certain standard of content should be maintained on the forum in consideration of the tender age of certain participants. This age is 13, no less (says so right in our terms of service). Thus that standard of content is PG-13. Which allows quite a few liberties with language. Also I'll note that the only person who has hitherto complained is comfortably over 18. The younger members don't seem to feel they need protecting.

Celra said it best:
Seriously was this just a "I bored I think I'll start a complaint" type of thing? Because I looked around and I dident see anyone saying F*** this or F*** that and usually if they do its bleeped out.
What I've found since I joined this forum over 2 years ago (and I already mentioned, as others did too) people censor themselves. Sure, some words slipped out here and there. Not every other post. That's why it's not and shouldn't be an issue.
I'll still wait for Stardrifter's final say on it, though.

The Moderation Team had a bit of a discussion on the Staff board and we came to the following decision: We'll wait for Stardrifter. Until then we will not alter the way we moderate posts.

Well since it is the legal definition of obscene in the country you live in I though it might be...ah...relevant? The FCC's laws on obscenity apply specifically to television broadcasts. That's why they're not relevant. That's really a non-sequiter. You probably had a reason to look it up. I didn't. Whether or not I'm offended by them doesn't change the fact that, when obscene words are the focal point of discussion, they will likely have to be said by name in order to clarify the point. And in my defense, I DID self-censor by putting them behind a spoiler tag. Just to be clear, I don't presume to be speaking for Stardrifter, just trying my best to respect what I percieve her wishes to be. The language thing came up during another discussion. On the first page I see two other complainers and they are under eighteen.

as for 2 other members that agree with you well aint that great? 2 out of 1,000+
The reason I think your just looking to rant is because this is not the first time you did this as I recall several times on this forum you made posts that got the forum all pissed
Seriously just drop the drama already because I'm getting REALLY pissed off.

If a may step in here... How is he "starting drama"? His post wasn't telling us to stop saying those words altogether, just to filter them out. Typing stars instead of letters isn't that hard, Celra, and it won't offend people when you do it. 1,000+? I don't remember seeing 1,000+ people saying that they agree with you. Just because a lot of people haven't posted doesn't automatically mean they side with you. Oh, and you haven't said a few things that got people mad? Everyone here has said something that has gotten under some member's skin sometime or other. The wise thing to do is to wait 'til Stardrifter gets here to make sure that this is what she wants to do. (Thumbs up to the Moderation Team) And it'd be nice if we could all stop yelling about this until after she gets her say in.

What James suggested we do isn't that diffucult. Why on Earth would there be three pages of arguing with him, when all he did was ask you to replace a few vowels with stars? James really didn't create any drama. This could have been resolved within three posts, but it is taking three pages.

If it only took 3 posts, then none of the other members would have had any input in the decision. True, Stardrifter gets the last word, but you really thing SD doesn't take the members' views into account?

Woah there, Celra.
There's no need to target James and start a "let's bring up irrelevant stuff that happened in the past" discussion. Really uncalled for there.
You're overreacting to this situation a bit, here.
