==Current Game Stats==
Guests: 2/6 (2 found, 0 murdered)
Is the normal phase playable now?
NO, the game hasn't started yet.
==Introduction==
The following was based on a passage from my article, "This forum is comatose.", available in the "Suggestions/Updates" section. To quote the appropriate parts,
"They [Dock Penguins, a now-defunct web forum] frequently held contests, like this "house" thing where there was a host, killer, a large amount of guests, and an elimination mechanism I will explain later if we choose to implement the idea."
My attempts to reconstruct this game are somewhat fuzzy: the game's been gone for years, the site's been deleted, so no records remain except those in my mind. However, I am doing my best here to recreate the game with modifications to suit our purposes.
==How the Game Works==
The setting of the game takes place in a large building called the House, as depicted at the link below:
imageshack.us/photo/my-images/834/numbuh8proboardshousega.png/
Here's a run-down of what everything is here:
* Master Bedroom: This room is where I as host and landlord live and sleep in-game. The Master Lavatory is a private bathroom, the word "lavatory" used so the text would fit in the space.
* Dorms: The vertical rectangular rooms to the left and right of the Master Bedroom represent where all players besides me live and sleep in-game. Think of them as like a college dorm you own yourself and you won't go far wrong. One user = one dorm.
* Cafeteria: Although you can eat wherever you want, the cafeteria is a designated place for it.
* Closet, Stairs, Restrooms, Entrances, Exits: Self-explanatory. They mean what they say. The cellar just contains random old shit of 1/0's. Despite this, he/I does not like others fiddling around in the cellar without permission, and he has it under lock and key.
* Store: Not depicted in-map, this is a place containing everything you can buy. Currency accepted here is a sort of money issued by me, a reasonable amount given to each guest/player.
In the game, there are seven players: a host and six guests. The host is the owner of the House, and as I am the maker of this post, that would be me. Six other users are guests. Any user can be one of the guests, iff (if and only if) all the criteria below are met:
# There is at least one unoccupied dorm available. If a preexisting guest is willing to share a room with you, this doesn't apply.
# You have at least 500 posts on this board.
# You can confidently state that you will be able to participate actively for the length of the game, which will last at least a few weeks, and will state whenever you will be absent a few days in advance.
If you meet all the above criteria, you simply can post in the signup thread, labelled "House Signup" at numbuh8.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=fgames&action=display&thread=9658, and if you meet the criteria, I will add you in. You can also be added in by a private invitation from me.
Anyway, one of the guests is designated to be the Murderer. The murderer is randomly determined. There are six dorms, not counting the Master Bedroom. I roll a die. Whoever occupies the dorm with that die number (the leftmost being 1, rightmost 6) is going to be the murderer.
Once I officially declare the game to have started (Day 1), each player gets a week to do as they wish within the house. They can invite others into their dorms, go shopping, eat, et cetera. You just can't leave the house. There are no exits which aren't locked: the key is hidden in the master bedroom, also locked. Each dorm has its own lock, which the dorm owners and I both possess copies of. Just one more rule:
* You can't destroy the house or inflict harm on others. All major injuries magically heal very quickly, and nobody can die. This is subject to further instructions, see below.
Got it? Now, to the fun part. A week after the game starts (Day 7), I PM the "murderer" and ask who they want "murdered" and how they want him/her "murdered". (The only rules on who can't be murdered is that the Host, i.e. me, cannot be murdered, and the murderer cannot commit suicide by murdering him/herself.) If a player is murdered, the player is out of the game and cannot post here until a new round starts. They can post in the Heavenly Hall, to be explained later. I make a post announcing the victim's name and cause of death. All remaining guests discuss amongst themselves who has been murdered. I open up a poll, and the guests (including the actual murderer) are allowed to debate and discuss who they think the murderer was. The murderer can frame others. This period of discussion lasts for three days, until (Day 10) whoever the most people think was the murderer is "exiled" from the House and is out of the game for the round (see below for details). Two things can happen:
[/li][li] If the actual murderer was exiled, the game is a cooperative win for all remaining guests. The dorms are emptied and a new round can start from the beginning.
[/li][li] If someone else was exiled, the exiled person cannot post here for the rest of the round. A new "period" begins, with seven days of normal play, a murder, three days of discussion, and another exile. This is repeated as necessary until only two players remain, in which case everyone loses and a new round starts.
The only rule for exiling people is that you cannot vote to exile yourself and you cannot vote to exile me, the Host (that isn't a poll option, and the host cannot be the murderer!).
In case you're upset about being murdered/exiled, don't be upset. After the first murder, I'll be setting up a "heavenly hall", which is like the original game, but with the murder and exiling elements removed. At first it'll be just you and me, but if more are killed, they will join here as well.
