Dead users. What do I mean by "dead"? I mean users which have not made any posts at all yet have been around long enough where we could expect that. I'm afraid that they may just be taking up needless clutter and could possibly retard forum growth. How?
Alice wants to join this forum. She would be a very contributing member to this forum. She is about to join, but finds the username she wants has been taken by somebody who joined a couple years ago, never posted, and disappeared. She leaves the forum to post somewhere else.
In case you're laughing at this scenario, it's pretty similar to my scenario. I was going to join another forum, but I found the username I wanted was taken. So, I switched to this one. Since then I made this account, with 1200 posts (~1800 if you include my old account here).
If it's possible, I think we should set up an automatic system where all users who go on for X days (maybe ninety?) after their account creation without making any posts at all will be automatically deleted. I doubt they would really care, seeing as they would be gone for so long. Although it may not seem like very much, I still think it would be a good idea. It would also reduce clutter. About 3/5 of our users never made a single post. We need to clean up. If it can't be done automatically, we can do it manually. I would happily do the job.
