I would use the word "dead", but there are still now a thousand users, some active, and the forum does see some activity, and I can post something and not have to wait for days for a response. However, the most-used areas on the forum, judging by number of replies, are the Forum Games (~40000 at time of post) and the Roleplays (~20000). The most popular section of the actual section on the KND is romance, which still rounds to 20000 but is about fifty replies less than the roleplays. None of the other KND systems have even 10000 replies. What has happened to this forum? This forum has seen quite a bit of activity in the past. The little box on the bottom of my screen says the forum was most active in late 2006, when we seen 112 users. I heard the forum's activity dropped once the KND series actually ended.
Now, the question is: what can we do to revive this forum? I used to belong to a forum known as Dock Penguins. I stayed there for many years, and I enjoyed it. It was originally themed on the MMORPG "Club Penguin", but I found myself going on there over a year after I outgrew the game (the Club Penguin only initially drew me in). Most of my posts were in the "off topic" section. The only reason I left was because the forum moved platforms, I couldn't find the new URL, I couldn't work out how the system worked. All technical difficulties. It doesn't really matter personally, but I think we could learn something. Most of the users on there were teenagers, many above age 15: I remember being quite surprised when I saw a nine-year-old (which fits in the Club Penguin 6-15 demographic) on there. The reason I'm telling you this is that I feel we may need to expand on this.
We should use KND as a means of drawing new users in, have some sections for KND discussion, and a much larger section below the KND section about other things. Dock Penguins, if I remember correctly, had separate sections for music, video games, school, et cetera (it was so long ago it's somewhat a blur). We should do something similar. Rechristen the "Roleplay Main" as "KND Roleplay" and move it into the KND section. Dock Penguins always retained its Club Penguin parts, and advertised itself as a Club Penguin website. Its founder consistently had a blog on Wordpress about Club Penguin. But the vast majority of discussions lied in the things which didn't have to do with Club Penguin, but weren't games and roleplays. They had a form of "money" which could be used to buy prizes. They frequently held contests, like this "house" thing where there was a host, killer, a large amount of guests, and an elimination mechanism I will explain later if we choose to implement the idea.
Something should be done about this forum. But what? Let's sit down, talk, and see how we could revive this near-dead forum. I think adopting a strategy similar to Dock Penguins would work.
