Something I've noticed is how television programs tend to rush their series finales when the show goes on for a long time. They either cram it all in, make it unrelated to the rest of the show, shock us too much (something C:KND did), or, the one that happens often enough to be a drag, don't bother ending it at all.
I bring this up because of the Prison Break series finale last night. A great, slightly prolonged series just burst into flames.

Seinfeld comes to mind. Also, while it didn't seem rushed, the ending to The Sopranos was disappointing due to the ambiguity of it all.

Seinfeld was something I never got into, but I couldn't agree more about The Sopranos. It was almost as frustrating as the ending of the movie Jude (and that at least actually had an ending).
I hadn't caught up with Battlestar Galactica in a while, so I just saw the finale a couple of days ago. It isn't the worst ending in history, but it does bring up another thing that gets annoying in finales: flashback sequences. When they reflect back on the "adventures" of the characters for the past however-many episodes, you kind of feel overwhelmed. "Yes, we know this is the last episode, thanks very much for the unnecessary reminder. Just jump the ship already."
But it was a good show with an okay ending. Watch it; enjoy it.

You know what's worst, when a show gets canceled, and the finale is left open ended, or the unanswered questions =/. But I guess fandom or fanfiction gets to make that stuff up

Biggest twist finale ever: Queer as Folk.
The couple was Brian and Justin were supposed to get married and live happily ever after, but then, Justin gets offered a job in NYC and he takes and and they break off their wedding and break up. Uncool.

Heh. Wow. That's worse than The Mist.
I'll have to watch that show sometime. But first I must watch Dexter! I keep getting comments on how good it is. Any viewers?
*laughs* Fanfiction is the last thing you want to depend on for typing up loose ends.

Most effed up finale. Fan's pretty much killed themselves. it's upsetting, too.
As for fanfiction tying up loose ends? No. Fanfiction destrys post crap, most of the time. It's terrible. it's rare to find post-show/book/etc fics that work well.

It's terrible. it's rare to find post-show/book/etc fics that work well. But there are exceptions, I found truly great writing, even better writing then J.K. Rowling, in the Harry Potter section. But fanfiction helps when there is no finale, or for me, to try and get over my disappointment in a show/book/etc....

As much as I adored Seinfield, I've never seen the finale, so I can't really comment on that.
Reboot comes to mind, though. Since the show was screwed by the networks so many times, the writers thought it was going to end with the third season. So we got a nice fairy-tale-esque happy ending at the end of S3. Turns out the studio got to make two more Reboot movies, and then it was cancelled in the middle of a horribly tragic cliffhanger when a long-thought-dead villain outwitted the heroes and took their city under control. AGGGH.
With a lot of these series, for me at least, it takes me a while to sort of "digest" what I saw/read/smelt in the finale, because it wasn't exactly what I was expecting, or because my friend was there whining about it. Think about it. A lot of these writers are trying to meet hype expectations that their networks set up and please the fans. It's hard for the guys! I dunno. That's my twopence, at least.

Did anybody like the ending of Star Trek: Generations? I've been on the edge since I first saw it, and after having seen it again, I think I'm leaning towards disappointment. Not that Kirk was ever all that manly in the first place, but of all ways to die, why a bridge? One of the "greatest" future space adventurers gets crushed by a bridge. Huh.
