There may have been a similar thread to this one before, or i may have actually posted a topic like this one before.. but anyway, which songs make you cry, and why? And are they tears of happiness, or sadness? There's one song that always gets me, and it's mainly because it's just so beautiful and the lyrics just always make me think about my life and wanting to reach my goals.. Somewhere Over The Rainbow - Eva Cassidy Mainly tears of happiness.. ermm i can't think of many other songs that trigger my emotions atm but there are a few others, i'll post them on when i remember

"Christmas Shoes". The one about the guy who was buying presents, and the boy in front of him wanted to buy some shoes for his dying mother.
Always makes me cry.

I don't cry over songs any more, but there were two that really got the tears flowing for me:
John Lennon's "Mother". Very powerful, very personal, and very sad.
And
The Eagles' "Desperado". When I was younger, I was emotionally a lot like the title character. The end of the song really got to me, and I would sit and cry for a long time.

There are two by Pink; "Dear Mr. President" and "Conversations with my 13 year old self".
Dear Mr. President is sooooo emotional....so very emotional. And I can definitely relate to "13 Year Old Self"...I know how that feels. Don't hide...then it'll KILL to come out and before you know it you'll wind up trusting someone too much and they wind up not worth it.
Boy, I know how that feels.
And there's this one called "Becuase Of You". D*** I can relate; I know what having divorced parents that can't tell that their kids are suffering from the divorce because the poor s***heads are too caught up in trying to prove him/herself right to their ex.
Kelly...I know how you feel, girl. Holla to you.

Some of your replies i have heard, especially Pink's songs (Numbuh 385), yeah, Dear Mr President does sound quite sad..
I've just remembered another one that makes me all emotional and glassy-eyed.. I'm listening to it now - "I'm Not In Love", by 10CC.
Omg, especially the 'big boys don't cry' bit.. it just sounds so sad but it's so beautiful at the same time, and cus its about love.. <33 its just so nice. if you havent heard that song plz listen to it, it's such a classic!

"Potter's Hand." www.youtube.com/watch?v=_aYvGE1MKeIIt's so beautiful. "Christmas Shoes". The one about the guy who was buying presents, and the boy in front of him wanted to buy some shoes for his dying mother. Oh, yes. I love that song. I tear up everytime I hear it, too. Actually, you should buy NewSong's soundtrack if you like that one. Their songs are fantastic.

Preferably if it's sung as a carol rather than a pop-jazz-rap-whatever remix. I especially love the Animaniacs version of it. It was funny and definitely a Warner's twist, but wasn't at all irreverent or anything (yup, I've heard it called that; morons). And triple kudos to them for using the TV Byword. God forbid anyone mentions Jesus outside of a swearing spree.

As it's xmas, here's a christmas song that makes me feel a bit teary/emotional:
'I Believe in Father Christmas' by Greg Lake. It's just 'cus it's so joyful and the strumming at the beginning is real nice to listen to as well.

I tend to prefer the original versions of songs. Is the version by NewSong not the original version?

I don't believe so. I think it was done by a single singer first.
Or was it?
