What makes Tenchi Muyo different is that there's also a bit of a sci-fi story in the bargain (at least in the OVA series... not so sure about the TV series and sequels). In fact the three movies don't even concentrate on Tenchi's romances at all (despite two of them being called "Tenchi in Love").
It's not quite as effed-up as, say, something by Rumiko Takahashi, but it's worth a view.

I've only seen the ones where the girls are in an all-out battle for his affections.
And noticed the sci-fi stuff, but figured that was just a gimmick to hold the show together. How boring would a straight Dating Sim anime be?

How boring would a straight Dating Sim anime be? Probably as boring as an actual dating sim, I would guess. After all, this is probably why no one talks about Love Hina anymore.

I liked Tenchi Muyo when it aired on Toonami years ago, though I found myself liking Tenchi In Tokyo the least of them for some reason. (Waits for somebody to say they like Tenchi In Tokyo the most.)

I really like Maho Tsukai Tai, or Magic Users Club. It's nothing really special. Typical airhead klutz female lead who ends up having enormous power when she "believes in herself". Her more level-headed best friend. The president of the club who's a pervert, but doesn't act on them. The very gay vice president who's in love with the president, but the Level Headed Best Friend loves him. And the fifth wheel flighty girl who's really good at magic, but doesn't really care about the club or following their guildelines.
The OVA is WAY better than the series. All I liked about the TV run were the indications that the vice president may not be as gay as he thinks. Maybe he's secretly bi.

The OEA is WAY better than the series. Did you mean "OVA" or is OEA a new term I'm not familiar with? NumbuhInfinityActually, most people I've talked to have liked Tenchi in Tokyo the least. Well, nowadays some people say Tenchi GXP was worse.

I saw an episode on Youtube... But it was dubbed. And Tenchi was yelling through 90% of the episode. It was very funny.

Sorry to interupt the Tenchi talk, but I've got to say some more about Star Blazers. I just bought the second series on DVD (it took me for ever to save up enough money ) and it was absolutely fantastic! Even better than the first! The Comet Empire was a great new enemy for the Star Force, Wildstar rocks as captain of the Argo, and Leader Desslok (my fav character), as always, had some great scenes. If you missed my recommendation the first time, here it is again: CHECK OUT STAR BLAZERS!!! It's cool.

One of these days I'll check out Star Blazers.
Recently I've been watching the offerings of Adult Swim (and early-morning Cartoon Network). Thoughts:
Ghost in the Shell: Stand-Alone Complex -- Okay, this is actually pretty interesting. I might have to rent DVDs one day in order to get caught up on the plot.
Inu-Yasha -- Now, most of my original impressions still stand--Rumiko Takahashi's creativity is running low and she's re-using a lot of ideas from her previous manga (most notably: the Rumik World story "Fire Tripper," and characters who all seem to be recycled from Ranma 1/2). Heck, the episodes I've seen recently even include this guy in wolf skins who looks just like Shukumaru from Fire Tripper. Despite this though, the show has caught my interest... enough that I might buy DVD sets one day.
Voltron -- Well... seems I've gotten a little weary of this. The action, storyline, and inspirational music are the high points that held this show together, but more and more I'm finding myself unable to tolerate the bad 80s dubbing and the "Monster of the Day" formula. Perhaps I'd enjoy this show more in its original Japanese, with maybe one or two of the US Dub episodes around for nostalgia's sake.
Pokemon -- There are two things that would seriously improve this show: One would be if Ash and co would take a cue from Lina Inverse and stop treating Team Rocket like they're actually some sort of serious threat even though Ash always defeats them using the same freaking attack again and again. Two would be if Nintendo announced that an actual ending to the show was forthcoming. I mean seriously, how many darn badges and leagues must Ash win before the show is finally over? The only thing this show has going for it anymore is the opening theme music.

Most animes, at least the ones in America, tend to reuse plots and characters and whatnot. Exhibit A: Yu-Gi-Oh

Yeah, there's repitition in a lot of anime (as an aside, that Yu-Gi-Oh video serves as a crash course in one-line dialogue cliches I never want to hear anyone say ever again). Most of the reason it bugs me in Inu-Yasha is because Rumiko Takahashi's works are usually much more unique.
Voltron's still good, I just kinda got tired of it.
As for Pokemon, its not so much the repitition that bugs me as it is that the show never freaking advances and has a bad case of the "Restart Button" syndrome. I mean, Ash goes around these continents, and battles gym leaders, and wins a league... then he just gets shipped off to another continent where he has to lather, rinse, repeat all over again, maybe with a new character or two for variety. And there hasn't been any real character development since the pilot episode.
Seriously, if you took out the opening themes, you could find a newbie, show him an episode from the first season back-to-back with an episode from Master Quest and he wouldn't be able to tell they're from different seasons.
Easily this is one point Yu-Gi-Oh has over Pokemon--it has a plot, that actually advances, and you can gradually see the characters and world changing as the story goes on. No "reset button," no "Yugi gets shipped off to another region and has to start from scratch."

Look, I LOVE InuYasha...but I stopped watching because it's the same thing over and over again. "OMG! I have to go break Naraku's barrier! Whoo-hoo! Yay, I just figured out how! Off to break it....Supernew attack!...Oh, it broke through, but he got away! ....Oh no, now he has an even strong barrier! I better go get another new attack that claims to break through any barrier!"...drives me nuts.
Anybody read Demon Diary? It's sooo funny! "You WILL reign in terror, and you'll LIKE it!" "But I don't wanna!"
