I don't know about you but I feel the Final Fantasy series is slowly starting to go to the areas of suckage (for some people it already had). Final Fantasy X-2 is very evident of that, IMO. I'm too tired to post a full opinion so maybe later. But do you feel the series is starting to/has become sucky?

That's when the series lost any integrity it may have had and started doing stupid things just to attract fanboys and fangirls. I remember when people talked about how "innovative" it was that Aeris died, even though it was HARDLY the first time a character in a video game had died for the sake of the storyline (the Ninja Gaiden and Phantasy Star series both did it too). Final Fantasy 8 was okay, but it was yet ANOTHER example of Square trying to be innovative, but ending up with a system that SOUNDS good, but doesn't really work so well in implementation. I have Final Fantasy 9 and 10 but haven't bothered to play very far into either one yet. Frankly, I'm done with that series.

I have Final Fantasy 9 and 10 but haven't bothered to play very far into either one yet. Frankly, I'm done with that series. That's because when those old dudes in FF4 and FF5 were killed, they were... well, old dudes. No one cares about old men, apparently. But kill a young girl and all of a sudden everyone and their hamster starts bawling shouting and offering sacrifices and becoming depressed and committing-- okay, I'll stop. I did find it sad, and the way she was killed and the music just made it more so. That's probably one of the main reasons, I guess. Not that Phantasy Star 4 (the best in the series, imo) didn't have that kind of moment too, though. But then, not many people have played the pre-Online series I believe. Final Fantasy 9 is okay, but if you ever continue Final Fantasy 10 prepare to not laugh or smile all the way through. Seriously man, that game is depressing all the way. Unlike the previous games where they all had their chuckle moments. Okay, maybe FF10 had 'em but it was only like one or two. I don't totally hate the game, I like *some* of the music (a heavy metalish final boss theme? whoa) and they finally ditched the ATB that FF9 so royally forked up. But it's not good enough for me to play through all over again. Not like the SNES FF's. Oh, and I personally cannot stand overly/unnecessarily complex or tedious systems. Chrono Cross is a mega culprit of that, and I hated Breath of Fire 5: Dragon Quarter's system. Not the Final Fantasy Tactics-style battle, but more like crap like the "start over anytime with your stats 'cause you screwed up thanks to the game's insane difficulty and lack of inns and limited uses of saves and adding in stupid things like the D-Counter, preventing you from exploring and leveling up freely, etc. 'cause it's game over if D-Counter is 100%" Geez, how I hated how they mucked up that game. Man, it's super late, I better get going to bed.

Final Fantasy was never really all that great anyway, save for parts four and six. For example, just compare the original NES Final Fantasy (a rather sloppily-made game) to other RPGs from the same time, such as the original Dragon Warrior or Wizardry.
Final Fantasy II was, unfortunately, a foreshadowing of mistakes Square would go on to endlessly repeat... it had a complicated levelling/experience system which was innovative, but as usual with them, it worked better in theory than it did in practice. Which is why I tend not to care for Squaresoft's games.

I started to lose interest into the series after FF8. That was a terrible game. And now they're going online with FFXI? Give me a break. Oh, and you guys are aware that Squaresoft is SquareEnix now?

Yeah, I know... And to me FF8 storywise wasn't too bad until that... part... at Disc 2 where you find out something about the main characters (including the villians)... I was like "Eh?" But the battle system with the Drawing spells and crap... no. I felt Final Fantasy start really going downhill for me with FF10 as far as story goes, and then comes FF10-2. Yeah it's nice to finally have a light-hearted game after the rather depressing Final Fantasy 10, but c'mon... It just doesn't really seem like "Final Fantasy" at all.

I never played FFX. I don't have a Playstation II. But I have a friend who owns and has beaten it. Here was his rating of the game.
Ehhh...
At least the series has always had great music, no matter how crappy some of the games are.

Personally Final Fantasy 7's soundtrack was one of the game's turn-off factors for me.
