I'm dreading and looking forward to the movie. I love the book series, because it's so twistedly funny and dark, and when I first saw the pictures for the movies, I was like "hell yes!" even though the characters don't look much like the actors, but....
1. Movies are rarely as good as the books 2. Jim Carrey is great and all, but his roles tend towards "little kid humor" and I doubt he's going to be scary enough. 3. Three books in one movie? Two, sure, but I get the feeling that three isn't good.
Although, here's hoping it turns out well anyway... ^__^
("hoping," which here means "Parron doesn't think so, but she'll go watch it without fail anyway" XD)

Wheee, I love SOUE! .....*shifty eyes* Violet + Quigley for ever! ^_^ I can't wait for the movie either....3 books in one movie? How are they gonna cramp all that in? There'd be too many plot twists and all....

Ummm... Truth is, I had avoided this series--the title alone turned me off. But after seeing the previews for the movie, I'm wondering if anyone can enlighten me as to what the books are actually about?

Heh, the title turned you off? You should read the back-of-the-book summaries that Lemony Snicket writes. Even though the title sounds gloomy, it's actually the funniest book series that I have ever read. And good for the vocabulary to boot.
Basically, the books are about three siblings who are unexpectedly orphaned, and are forced to stay with several very distant relatives, and then when they run out of relatives, they're adopted by various other people. As the story goes on, they begin to find out more about a mysterious organization that they're somehow connected to. Lemony Snicket's sense of humor is wonderful and I love this series so much.

Tell me if I'm rambling, but I had the WEIRDEST dream about Violet and Duncan Quagmire...and the dream was entirely in black and white. I was in a trailer w/ them, and then somehow....we all died. Anyway, we got re-routed to some soul retreival center like in the movie Scream Team (that movie's ancient, though) and anyway....it was a pretty small room and there was a stage, and on it was some lady talking about life after death. Um...cutting a long story shirt, Duncan got released, then vcame back, and kissed Violet and took her away. *sigh* SO romantic.

I LOVED the original books...but I think the series is in a bit of a decline. Lemony Snicket's infamous "defining every single phrase" is funny at first, but it gets stale after a while. The earlier books had a lot more jokes than the later ones. Still, the later books do focus more on a continuing plot, which probably makes up for the lower amount of humor.
And yeah, I'm looking forward to the movie.
