So, was it as bad as a lot of people thought?
I saw it last week. It was... okay, I guess. I didn't expect to enjoy it much, so I didn't have high expectations (having low expectations is good to reduce/avoid disappointment, IMO). It's still weird having a real live-action show on Cartoon Network (that isn't on Adult Swim that is).
If there's one really bad mark about this show, is that the cartoons don't really affect anything in the "real world" but Jimmy. So they could have all these big gags and musical numbers and cartoon characters running around, but the non-Jimmys won't see, hear, or feel a thing (not even when a cartoon stage dropped in the middle of the classroom). Yes, yes, I know, it's all in Jimmy's head. But still.

I saw the second half of it. I was particularly hard on teh movie, considering it a homeless man's Who Framed Roger Rabbit. So of course I tune in seeing more of the same. Sure enough, more random sight gags and over the top jokes and stories that are either lame or just plain weird.
The worst part isn't really the jokes or the stories, but the characters themselves. They are so stupid, it's almost offensive to watch. The cartoon characters, despite being annoying to no end, are still the least chokable of anyone. Jimmy's dad, the school counselor, could legitimately qualify as being mentally retarded. His mom being an astronaut who never takes off her spacesuit is probably the least illogical part of the whole show. For no apparent reason, he has an alien stepsister. And why is the villain STILL living with the family after being vaporized in the movie? And his friend and crush are now black, despite being Asian in the movie. Probably the original actors got out of Dodge after that abortion, but you'd think they'd find someone who looks somewhat similar at least among ethnic lines?

I have to say that Cartoon Network is never the same. Live-action shows? Fried Dynamite? What is going on there?

You know, it took me a long time before I noticed a couple months back that there's no more Fridays live hosts. Well, until now that is.

I didn't see it, but my kids watched the first couple of minutes of it and didn't enjoy it at all.
My prediction: Kids will wacth at first to see if it lives up to all the hype, then ratings will tank in a couple of months.
There are plenty of other live-action shows for kids to pick and choose from. Why did CN ever think this nonsense could compete against those shows?

I hated the movie, and I've seen a few seconds of the show, I hate it. The way they play the adults is ridiculous, and I find it very hard to believe that THOSE are America's funniest cartoons.
Plus, live action and CARTOON Network. No no no no. NO.

In before somebody comes up and goes into a, "So what if there's live-action on Cartoon Network, it's different!" rant. I don't know, I just sense it. If it doesn't do well it probably will only last one season.

A few years ago, my kids would only watch Nick. We started flipping to CN around 2003-2004. That's around the time the kids and I discovered KND.
The network is really losing its way. I liked it because of Adult Swim and how they'd air these edgier cartoons that appealed to older cartoon fans (EE & E (which I personally do not care for, but I respect how the show did well for so long, and the unorthodox storytelling format), KND, Foster's, Billy & Mandy, Justice League). NONE of their newer cartoons have the edge that the ones from just a few years ago did.
They think the only way they're going to compete in the ratings is to imitate what everyone else is doing. It's all about $$$ and ratings and nothing to do with fanbases or innovation.
The only reason I'll keep CN on is to watch the end of KND, Foster's, and possibly Chowder. Everything else could be shown on any other kids' channel. Too many fart jokes, butt jokes, boring live-action, lame humor, etc.
Despite what these execs at CN think, kids will NOT watch whatever is thrown at them. I still think "OOJH" will tank by the end of the year, maybe early next year at the latest.

Even though that show looks dumber than dumb, it still has some animation in it so I guess I am okay with that. It is just their "Its Cartoon Network's first live action series" that makes me sick. Oh yeah but word on the street is that the creators of X-Files, Even Steavens, and Phil of the Future are working on a full live action pilot for CN.
