I searched for a topic on this and couldn't find one. So, who else likes Doctor Who? I like it a lot, although I admit that I haven't seen the classic series, although I know a bit about it. If it's as entertaining at the new series, then I want to see it. At the moment, the most recent episode that has been aired in Australia is Utopia. I really want to see more of the Master, though I worry that I'm going keep expecting him to yell "I can hear you!" at the nearest radio, because the actor who plays him also played Sam Tyler in Life on Mars. Fortunately, The Sound of Drums is airing tomorrow night. I can't wait. I'm resisting the temptation to watch all the episodes online after seeing the season opener. It's hard. I wanted to see Family of Blood after watching Human Nature so much that I went and read the Wikipedia article for it the next day. No spoilers, please. Even though I sort of know what's going to happen. Professor Yana being the Master took me by surprise, though. I knew about the Master's drums thing and I still didn't expect that. Sorry if this makes no sense, it's late. But I wanted to talk about Doctor Who.

I love Doctor Who. Amazing show.
I was a bit disappointed by the season finale of the third season, truth be told. It's not bad as such, but it is disappointing after the excellent Utopia and the absolutely mind-blowing Human Nature/Family of Blood (not to mention the supremely scary Blink). SJ (the sole remaining Whovian on these forums) liked it, though, so it just might be me. I do tend to dislike the episodes when things go boom a lot. Don't get me wrong, I like the odd boom as much as the next fellow but Doctor Who is not where I want to see said booms. I'd rather see quirky, peculiar stories with an odd mixture of humour and seriousness.
My favorite episodes are The Girl in the Fireplace, Empty Child/The Doctor Dances, Human Nature/Family of Blood and Blink[1]. So, depending on what you think of these, you might want to disregard some or all of my critique of the season finale.
[1] Speaking of which: I want more Sally Sparrow. Sally is awesome. Bring her back.

The ninth Doctor was a good Doctor, I agree, but the tenth Doctor is good too.
I saw Blink and was not scared at all. I think there's something wrong with me. Good episode, though. My brother keeps repeating the "don't blink" warning from the end of the episode, which he says was the scariest part.
I wish they'd stop talking about Rose. Is it really necessary to mention her in every episode?

I really can't play favorites with the doctors. They are both awesome in their own uniquely awesome ways. Ten is the more charismatic one, I think. And he had more time to win over fans plus he has some really good episodes: The Girl in the Fireplace is possibly the best example. Masterful. Though, unlike Sound of Drums, not Master-full.
Heh.

Ouch at you 82 for only seeing Gridlock, it was possibly the worst episode of the series. And in 2009 the series stops for a year. So David Tennant can do Hamlet. Oh and I love Doctor Who!! And their are rumours that they are bringing Rose back. >=[

Oh man, I have gotten hardcore hooked on Doctor Who. I'll admit, I'm a huge 10th Doctor fan, but I still miss the 9th. Regan has gotten her hands on some early Who, and I'm going to try to get some of that off her.
PS. Dalek Sec is a freakshow and we love (to hate) him.

I doubt they're bringing Rose back. Billie Piper left, didn't she? Anyway, I saw the Sound of Drums on Saturday night, and it was awesome. The Master is definitely one of my favourite villians. Example: (The Master is gassing his Cabinet) Dying man: You're insane! (The Master grins and puts two thumbs up in a "I heartily agree with you" kind of gesture.) I've now seen one story of the classic series, a Fourth Doctor story entitled The Robots of Death. It was that or The Seeds of Death, the only other Doctor Who DVD they had at Video Ezy. It was pretty good. I noticed that it was a lot less angsty than the new series. Four was quite calm even when he was being strangled by robots, compared to Ten's "RAWR I B VENGEFUL GOD" thing. Also, I found out what to do if confronted by murderous robots: Jab a syringe full of bad special effects into their heads. My dad, who watched the series growing up, said that he thinks that classic Doctor Who is easier to take seriously, because it's lower-budget. Personally, I like it because it's so silly. I liked Nine, but I think he was even angstier than Ten. He had survivor's guilt and stuff.

Agreeing with 0xFF, Sally is easily companion material. =)
And Martha is gone tilllllll episode 8. And untill I work out how to do the spoiler box, I'll restrain from all I know.
And I liked John Simm very much so, I liked the episodes. He had just the right amount of madness. But 0xFF, I do share with you those fave episodes.
The empty child is much more scarier then any Dalek/cyberman/hybrid. And the family were great!
As for original series, its alright. The episodes I saw were good, And I've seen a fair few. But I prefer the newer series (don't yell at me hardcore fans!). I find it hard to engage sometimes in the old series. The companion acting was sub-par. And hypocritiacally enough of me, I say this as they bring Donna Noble back.
6 episodes in:
"You mean to say, that those things, they were aliens?"
*Shudder*
edit: And Shwoo, yeah she left. But I heard that Billie Piper regretted it and asked if she could come back. And she was originally going to get her own spin-off Rose Tyler: saving the earth! -_-. Actually it was Christmas special and on every other holiday.

There was just something...ham-fisted about the way Rose was written. I thought Piper was a bad actor but New Earth put that notion to rest. She's actually really good but...underused? @re: Angstiness Well this is less of a renegade Doctor happy-go-luckily transversing the Cosmos for fun -- after all he is the last of the Time Lords. That kind of thin weighs down on you. I think that the lonely God motif was rather well done, really. @re: the Master Oh, no doubt about it, he's being played masterfully. The manic cheerfulness coupled with actual no-nonsense evil is a very appealing combination. @re: spoiler tags Simple really. If I wanted to hide from you all the words SPOILER: SNAPE KILLS TRINITY WITH ROSEBUD all I would have to do is type: {spoiler} SPOILER: SNAPE KILLS TRINITY WITH ROSEBUD {/spoiler}
Except that I would replace '{' and '}' with '[' and ']' and it would come out looking like this: SPOILER: SNAPE KILLS TRINITY WITH ROSEBUD
Easy as a transcendental number encoding the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter.

Xkcd is one of the best webcomics ever. Just thought I'd get that out of the way. So anyway, this page was an entertaining read. I liked the theory about how exactly the eighth Doctor regenerated into the ninth Doctor.
