I tohught it was funny how Merry and Pippin are the comic relief in the first movie, but Gimli was in the other two.

I love Lord of the Rings. I've seen all of the movies and read little some bits and pieces of the books. (Why haven't I bothered to finish reading them yet?)
Has anyone ever read the Hobbit? That book lead to the Lord of the Rings. It's a great read and you get to see how adventurous Bilbo was.
Personally, I thought he was a lot more heroic than Frodo.

I read The Hobbit before I read Lord of the Rings. I agree that Bilbo was more herioc, but his situation was a little different to Frodo's. Bilbo didn't get the Ring for some time, and when he did, Ringwraiths never showed up when he used it.
