CHAPTER ONE
--------------------------------------------------------
It was a midsummer afternoon in the treehouse.
Kuki was playing with her favourite rainbow monkey, lying in the bed and hugging it like a baby boy: on the last mission they made some days ago Wally saved her from a rude attack by the Common Cold, and the way he saved her from the green sneezy avenger made her very blushy and happy, a kind of happiness she only felt when the orange hood boy let her felt his touch.
Wally took her as he wanted to give a tender hugh, and then they rolled down to the ground, till they looked to each other in the eyes.
His green eyes to her black eyes, lost in a short but intense moment.
Kuky was daydreaming as she did everytime, but now some kind of sadness took her in the deep of her little sweety beating heart.
Abby came in to her room.
“’scuse me numbuh 3, have you seen my… eyeglasses?”
Kuki didn’t answer to her.
“Numbuh 3? Something wrong?”
“Oh, no no no”, said Kuki, “Just thinking”
“Thinking?”, said Abby with a smile.
“Yes, thinking”
“I’m wondering who’s the subject”
“Please numbuh 5, leave me alone!”
Abby felt a little worried and left Kuki’s room.
“Hey dude, where are my glasses?”, said Abby to Hoagie.
“I dunno”, said him working on a new 2x4 technology machine’s plan.
“Damn! I need those eyeglasses! I can’t read without!”
“You can use my goggles, if you want”, said Hoagie with a vicious smile.
Abby took his goggles and slapped them in his face.
“OUCH!”, said the poor boy, “It hurts, Abby! It hurts!”
“Next time you’ll trick numbuh 5, numbuh 5 will prick you!”
“I wasn’t tricking you”
“I thin you did it, dude”
Abby wasn’t angry for Hoagie’s provocation, she felt worried again for Kuki.
“Numbuh 5 should talk with numbuh 3, why not?”
“U-uhm, numbuh 5?”, said Nigel.
“Yes?”
“I think these are your eyeglasses”, said him picking up a pair of her own.
“Thanks numbuh 1! Now numbuh 5 can finally work on that darn math exercise”, said Abby wearing her eyeglasses.
She passed next to Kuki’s room, she thought that everything was quiet.
Instead, she heard the girl sighing.
Abby came in the room again.
“Hi there… maybe I know isn’t the right time, but numbuh 5 wants to know what’s going on with you”
“Leamme alone, please”, said Kuki with her face pressed on the pillow.
“Numbuh 5 doesn’t leave anyone alone, and you don’t make exception”
Abby sat next to Kuki: the sighing girl stood weeping on her pillow.
“Now I wanna see your pretty face and look into your eyes…”
Kuki left the pillow and saw Abby straight in her face, and then she started to laugh.
“Oh, now you’re feeling much better!”
“He he he, you’re wearing eyeglasses!”, said Kuki.
“Me wha… oh!”, said Abby leaving off that pair from her face.
Kuki felt much better after that funny situation and smiled to Abby.
“C’mon, green golf, tell me what’s wrong. Is someone’s hurting you?”
“Oh well, not hurting but making me feel sad”
“Don’t tell me is numbuh 2! I told him to stop with those puns…”
“Is not numbuh 2!”, said Kuki with a sad expression in her eyes.
“Oh”, Abby understood, “It’s Four… Am I wrong?”
“No, you’re not”
“Can’t find the courage to confess him what you feel for him?”
“Me I got the courage, him not! That makes me angrrry!”, said Kuki showing her teeth as a wild cat.
“So you're waiting his confession, uh? Why don't you confess first, and then see what happens?”
“I'm not sure of myself”, said Kuki sadly, “Sometimes I think it's just a temporary crush for Wally, somethimes I think it's real love... Oh numbuh 5, i'm so in doubt!”
“What can I say, girl? A crush sometimes evolves into a real true feeling, as affection or love. You have only to look into the deep of your soul and ask what kind of feelings you got for Wally. That' s all”
“I... I'll do that!”, said Kuki happily.
“Now I like you, girl. See ya, I have to study now”
“Ab... err, numbuh 5?”
“Yes?”
“Why do you have to wear eyeglasses?”
“Oh, well... it's a family inheritance. My sis got it too, he he”
“He he he”, Kuki laughed.
While she was going to study in her cool room of the treehouse, Abby felt like she did a great thing.
Not like ending good a daily operation, just like giving a precious hand to a precious thing.
And she knew that the precious thing, her precious thing, now was playing happily with her lovely plushy friend.
Abby knew that, and she felt very happy.
