OK, Heres Mine.
Poor Wallabee Beetles never made it into the Teens Undercover. The only two who made it in, were Numbuhs 1 and 5. Nigel and Abby were told together, but Abby fought it. She was only 12 at the time, and had no idea what she was saying, but if Wally, Hoagie and Kuki wouldn't be invited to join, she didn't want to join. Numbuh 1, of course, took the offer, and in time, persuaded Abigail Lincoln to do the same.
Hoagie was the first to go into the decommissioning room. Rachel (12 and a half) had allowed these three to stay in KND just long enough to all get decommissioned on the same day. When Hoagie came out, he seemed to remember his friends, just not anything about the last years of his life.
Kuki was going in. Wally knew that he probably would never get another chance, he had to tell her then. She would not remember how close they were if he let her get away. He took a deep breath in. He knew that he had to, but at the right moment, he couldn't. Kuki was decommissioned.
Wally was last, he was strong, it was fast. Over.
4 years past, and except for Abby and Nigel, and sometimes Abby's communication with Kuki they had all lost contact. Until one cold Tuesday afternoon, Abby (who had a way of acquiring information) called 17 year old Wallabee Beetles.
"Hello?" asked Wally, picking up the phone.
"Hey... Do you know who this is?"
"Well... if it isn't my elementary school friend Abigail Lincoln! I don't know what it is, but I can recognize your voice. It was like we knew each other well..."
We only practically lived together in a tree house for years, thought 18 year old Abigail.
"Yeah... Do you remember Kuki Sonbon?"
"Of course! She helped me on a math problem once... I wonder why I can remember her so well..."
"Uh-Huh... Just listen. She is getting married. She told me to invite my friends. Sunday. The old church. If you want to go, be there." she said, the line went dead.
It all came back to Wally then. Everything. Every minute that he had spent in the KND, with Kuki by his side, his childhood, his friends... everything. If he knew Abby, (which he did) then he knew that she was going to invite all of the former Sector V. Maybe seeing what he was going to do would jog some of their memories.
No way Kuki! You are not going off to marry some guy who I've never met! Have you really not guessed how I feel about you yet? Geese... Your too young to get married anway... I should have been with you... then I could beat that guy up. OK, I'll call you... then he remembered that she probably wouldn't remember him at all. He had always looked after her, but turn his back on her for 4 years, she goes too far.
Wallabee Beetles grabbed his old orange coat from the closet. He had never gotten rid of it, it had always had some sentimental value to him. It had been 4 years. He had a year to remember a bit of his past. He was Number... no, no, no... Numbuh 4 of the Kids Next Door.
"Wallabee Beetles?" exclaimed Kuki... running over to him, "Ooh, you came! I knew Abigail would invite you! Ever since I told her about this wedding, all she had talked about was how you wouldn't miss it! I can't believe I even remember you!"
"Yeah theres a lot of that going around... Who are you marrying?" he asked. Not knowing his plan yet.
"Wha-- Why?"
He kissed her. All of Sector V had just walked through the door, they were all watching. All remembering. The kiss lasted about 10 seconds. Kuki finally came to realize what was going on, and pushed him away. She now remembered.
They were kids again. Two 10 year olds, starring into each others eyes. He loved her, and had waited 4 years to tell her. Now she knew.
The kids were back at the tree house. Five of them. They all hugged each other, not quite in control of their bodies. Their souls were hugging. Then, Numbuh 5 disappeared. Numbuh 1 followed, then Numbuh's 2 and 3. Wally grasped the now empty space in front of him where Kuki had been. He began to cry. His 10 year old self grew in 5 seconds back to 17. It was the first time he had cried in 4 years.
Wally let the breath out. Kuki was about to be decommissioned, and he had just wandered into thought.
"KUKI!" he yelled. She was being pulled in. As the red light in the decommissioning room flashed, he yelled, "I LOVE YOU!"
