VALENTINE'S DAY AT THE TREEHOUSE
A smiling sun was rising above the clouds, birdies were singing and daisies were blooming in the green fields behind the sector V's treehouse.
Who said that February was a cold cold boring month was wrong, really wrong: it was the fourteenth, it was Valentine's day and the air was cool and full of tenderness and love.
“Yuck! Anotha vomeething Valentine's day is back again!”, said Wally dressing up like a ten-years-old James Bond.
“So why you're wearing that smoking, numbuh 4?”, said Hoagie.
“Well, I promised numbuh 3 to take her out tonight...”
“And that's all?”, said Nigel entering in Wall'y's room.
“Yeeah... that's all”
“And maybe you're gonna take her to the Moonbase ballroom and you need a chaffeur for the limo?”, said Hoagie smiling at Wally.
“And maybe you're gonna dance with her cheek to cheek and tell her love poems and have some kissy kissy kissy kisses, uh?”, replied Nigel.
“And maybe”, said Wally, “you should mind your business and tell me if I'm looking good in this cruddy smoking, uh?”
“Well”, said Nigel, “you look pretty good... Err, you would look pretty good if I was numbuh 3”
“Whadduz it mean?”, said Wally a little puzzled.
In that moment numbuh 3 appeared in the room, holding behind her back something.
“Hullooo!”
“Numbuh 3!”, said Wally jumping in the air for the shock.
“Oooh! Wally's dressing pretty! Wally's dressing pretty!”
“Thanks numbuh 3”, said Wally blushing while Nigel and Hoagie were laughing at him.
“Where you're gonna take me out? Uh? Uh? Uh?”, said her with a big smile in the face.
“I-I-I dunno... maybe at..”
“The Moonbase ballroom?”, said Nigel.
“Ooooh!”, said Kuki, “The Moonbase ballroom!”
“Moonbase what?”, said Wally looking angry at a smiling and sarcastic Nigel.
“Oooh Walleee you're so lovely! We're gonna dance and twist and shout and...”
“Okay numbuh 3, I'll take you to the Moonbase ballroom tonight... Thanks guys!”
“Nothing, Wallace, nothing”, said Nigel going out of the room with Hoagie.
Numbuh 5 was also dressing up and looking herself at the mirror.
“Numbuh 5's so cool. Now she needs somebody to take her out tonight...”
“'scuse me numbuh 5”, said Hoagie, “have you seen my comics somewhere?”
Abby looked at him straight in his goggles.
“Hey numbuh 2”
“Yes?”
“Are you busy tonight?”
“Nope, I think”
“Well”, said her, “I think you'll be a good company for me...”
“You what???”, said him going blushy on his face.
“I thought that numbuh 5 needed not only a good chaffeur but also a good dancer, and...”
“And...?”, said him totally lost in her wild eyes.
“See us at seven 'o clock. Don't be late, huggie boy”, said her closing the door.
Numbuh 2 was real gone, while popping hearts surrounded him.
Nigel was sitting on his armchair, reading numbuh 13's memories.
“Man! He wrote a book! It's unbelievable! I can't read it anymore, even if there's some fun in it...”
“Niiiigiiiiieeee!”
“AAAAARGH!”
“Oh! Nigie Nigie Nigie!”
“Lizzie! You... you fool! I could have had an heartattack!”
“Don't be worry Nigie! I'm here for you, I'm totally yours today...”, said Lizzie.
“T-today?... Oh, yes. Yes. Today is Valentine's day...”
“Where you're gonna take me out tonight Nigie?”
“Well, I... I...”
“Oh, I know! Take me at the lake! We can rent a boat and look at the sky hand in hand... it would be so romantic, Nigie dear”
“... I think it's a good idea! Why not?”
“Oh! Nigie!”, said Lizzie hugging him too strong.
“O'hey Izzie... 'ow leh he breahe!”
“What, Nigie?”
“I 'ant breahe!”
“Oh sorry!”
Meanwhile, at the Moonbase, numbuh 86 and numbuh 362 were preparing the ballroom.
“Do you think that pink balloons go with purple ones?”, said numbuh 362 to 86.
“As far as I'm concerned, I have no idea ma'am”, said her trying to raise the welcome's banner at the top of the ballroom's entrance.
“Don't call me madam, numbuh 86!”
“Oops! I'm sorry ma..”
“You did it again! You called me madam!”
“No madam!”
“You did it!”
“Nope!”
“Are you gonna make me angry 86?”
“No, ma'am!”
“Aaaargh!”
“I'm sorry boss!”
“Don't even call me boss, numbuh 86! I hate it!”
“I'm sorry...”, said 86 whit eyes on the ground.
Numbuh 362 felt a little worried about.
“Err... 86... it's ok, I mean, I didn't want to hurt you anyway...”
“Oh, thanks”, said 86 smiling at her.
They both blushed: numbuh 362 was shining in her eyes of a warm comfortable light.
“So, today is Valentine's Day”, said 86 trying to break the ice, “Have you got a companion?”
“Sincerely nope... and you, 86?”
“Nope... 362”
“So, we're both out of companion, uh?”
“Yes, we are”
There was a minute of embarassing silence.
“... I was thinking, numbuh 86...”
“Yes?”
“If we entrust the party to numbuh 60... maybe we should pass the rest of the day together... maybe doing the things we like...”
“You mean with me?”, said 86 totally blushy.
“Y-yeah...”, said 362 blushy too.
“I think it would be pretty”, replied 86.
“So... you're with me?”
“Yes, I'm with you...”
“Thanks 86”, and she gave her a kiss on her chin.
Numbuh 86 was listening to the angels singing out at that tender touch, while 362 was calling numbuh 60 for entrusting him the rest of the party organization at the ballroom.
Some hours later, the treehouse was empty.
Kuki and Wally were at the Moonbase ballroom, Hoagie and Abby at the Cheeze-Out Restaurant and Nigel and Lizzie were looking at the stars in the middle of the lake, hand in hand.
Everything was going pretty good for everybody, and also for 86 and 362...
But something scary was happening in the treehouse...
Two big shadows were approaching to the entrance, ready for a surprise attack.
“Okay, when I say GO! You smash the door with a big kick and then we attack together”
“Yes, sirrr”
“Okay okay... ready... steady... GO!”
The door was smashed with a big crack and the two evil presences entered in the treehouse.
“Well well well, Kids Next Door! It's bedtime now!”
“Uhm, Mr. Boss...”
“Yes Gramma Stuffum?”
“There's no one here”
“No one?”
“No one mister”
Mr. Boss was really angry.
“Damn! I know it wasn't the right night for the surprise attack!”
“Maybe we forgot that today's Valentine's day, sir”
“Valentine's Day?”, said Mr. Boss surprised.
“... I really forgot it. Valentine's day... However, Gramma Stuffum, we should do some mess here. I don't want to waste this evening”
“Ya, sirrr. Kids are out and we can doo everything we want, maybe I can full the fridge of an army of wild cabbages and acid oysters...”
“And I can break some rooms and find out some secret plans and...”
The two villains looked at each other.
“Err... Gramma Stuffum...”
“Yesssir?”
“Please, don't call me sir, dear”
“Oooh”
“I mean... There's no one all around, we're alone and we can spend this evening in a different way... if you agree with me”, said Mr. Boss puffing from his cigar.
“I'd be glad to spend this evening with you, if you let me cook”
“Of course Gramma, of course!”
Mr. Boss and Gramma Stuffum had their special dinner, and then they went outside looking for the shiny stars in the sky: there was a gentle breeze in the air, whispering invisible words of naked truth.
“Mr. Boss...”, said Gramma Stuffum, “I think I need to say something right now...”
“Tell me, dear”, said him puffing from his inseparable cigar.
“I've been working for you since I promised that I sweared eternal fight against the Kid Next Door, and during all these years...”
Her lips were trembling and her glasses were shining at the moonlight.
“... yes?”, said him.
“Weeell... I thingtcrshnyu”
“What?”
“I think I got a crush for you... Mr. Boss”
They both blushed together at those words of sincere confession.
“Wow, Gramma Stuffum... This is the first time in my life somebody tells me something like this”, said Mr Boss putting out his cigar from his mouth.
“Really?”, said her surprised, “D-do you mean that...”
“It' s a sad old story, my dear: in all these years I tried to be cool for attracting girls on me, but I failed... and the only love I had was from my cigar. Smoking him was like loving a girl, or a woman... and that's the sad story of my life”, ended him moaning like a wounded puppy.
“Did my words hurt you?”, said Gramma Stuffum.
“No... Indeed, you made me really happy for the first time in my whole life”
“Oh”, said her, “I hope you won't think that my confession looks like a bad joke...”
“Dear”, said him putting his hand on her shoulders, “Nevermind. Just...”
“Just...what...”
The full moon and all the stars in the sky were the only witnesses of a kiss between two romanitc villains, two adults in love, two lost souls together.
The day after everything seemed to came back in the same old way, even if there was something new that everybody tried to hide at the eyes of the sector.
Wally was wearing a Rainbow Monkey shirt with two kissing monkeys, one green and one orange,a lovely present from Kuki.
Hoagie stood blushy and stoned, while Abby smiled at him with vicious eyes.
Nigel was singing a leit-motiv working on his new plan against the adults.
Everything seemed to be good after Valentine's day.
Even for two mature persons.
“Did you hear the news?”, said the Toilenator to Knightbrace.
“Tell me, what's going on?”
“ Mr. Boss and Gramma Stuffum spent the night together on Valentine's Day!”
“Don't make us laugh, Toilenator!”, said Kinightbrace blowing on his hot coffee.
“Really, man”, said Chester, “Do you really think that our leader and that fat chick fell in love?”
“Naaaah!”, said Cuppa Joe, “Impossible. Just like putting sugar in the coffee for making it sweet”
“... but they're so good together, don't you think it?”, said the dorky flusher.
“Toilenator!”, said Knightbrace, “Do you really think we adults need romance in our work?”
“Maybe... why not?”
Everybody laughed at him, while outside the coffee bar Mr. Boss and Gramma Stuffum were walking down the street, together, hand in hand, like a young couple in love for the first time.
