Hi yal! ‘tis me, angie! This is my fanfic!
This fic mainly tells the tale of the first few months after Aowen’s arrival in the KND universe. Yes, it is basically a Garth Nix/KND crossover. So sue me. Oh, and i may be a little slow updating.
Prologue
A group of KND scientists mill busily about a large room, hidden somewhere deep within the confines of Moonbase. One such little scientist, who looked to be around nine years old, trots briskly up to a youth of obvious importance, clipboard in hand.
“Charlie! The K.I.D.D.A.F.Y.R.-R.A.Y is fully operational and stuff! All the ‘power-juice bars’ are reading SUPER-CHARGED capacity. I think it’s ready for testing,” reports the brunette, brushing a stray lock of coppery hair out of her eyes.
“Great! Thanks for telling me, Taylor,” said the young man, before turning to address kids as a whole. “Okay, listen up guys and guyettes!”
All fall silent except for two very loud chatterboxes, who were in the middle of a rather animated ‘funny face making contest’.
“Bleaaagh!” mouthed one boy, sticking his tongue out.
“Nnnnng-blehhh,” drools his compatriot.
“Hey! You two in the back! Zip it!”
The boys look up from their fun, grinning apologetically.
“That’s more like it. Like I was sayin’, this is an incredibly important experiment! We can’t be screwing this up! Cause if things go smoothly, the K.I.D.D.A.F.Y.R. will revolutionamize warfare against the adults as we know it……So let’s get this show on the road! Everyone, get to your positions!!”
The children quickly obliged, scattering this way and that, heading to the various areas of the lab.
“Kiddafying levels at gajillion percent!”
“No sign of those previous glitches in the computer mainframe this time, Charlie!”
“Awesome! What about the power readings, Numbah .901?” asked the boy, turning the head technician.
“All readings are in da’ green, optimum kidfficiency….fo’ the moment. Do we continue?”
“…..,”
“…..,”
“….Yep. Hit the button, Taylor!” he said, gesturing to the girl.
Taylor quickly obliged, lifting the glass safeguard and smashing the big red button beneath it.
Meanwhile, in another universe……
“Anet! Calew! Ferhan!” shouted a woman, charter marks flowing from her fingertips, forming into three silver blades.
The blades whizzed at a teenage girl, who swiftly dodged two of the projectiles while slicing the third in half with her scarlet-bladed sword.
The teen, black hair falling over a pair of glowing, purple eyes, didn’t even wait before she began to summon a Free Magic spell, feeling the power well up inside her. But before the words could properly leave her lips, a dark blur rammed into her side, ruining her concentration.
“Oomph!”
…..But instead of destroying the spell, it changed its purpose, and a white glow filled the clearing in which they fought…..
And when it dimmed, the girl was gone……
Back at Moonbase…..
“What…the crud???” muttered a white-coated techy, fingers flying across a keyboard.
“What’s wrong?” asked Charlie.
Sirens begin to sound, flashing red lights sending the whole room into a red glow, stopping children in their tracks.
“I-I dunno! Some sorta of weird anomaly! The Random-energy detectors are going off da roof…A-and the energy! It’s completely messing with the solididitity of the K.I.D.D.A.F.Y.R’s Thingamgijit’s electrical flow!” cried the technician, checking the charts that had been monitoring the K.R.
“Maddy, speak English, darn it! I don’t know ‘techy-talk’!”
‘Maddy’ as he had been identified, sighed exasperatedly before typing as fast as he could, trying to prevent a huge catastrophe. Gasps and cursing filled the room as the kids watched the K.R.’s crimson laser-beam fluctuate radically. And it had all been going so smoothly……..
“Lemme rephrase dat’: if I can’t shut it off, it’s gonna blow, and it’ll take most of Moonbase with it!”
“……,”
As the boy sweated and typed furiously at the computer, a strange light appeared at the point of the K.R.’s laser’s contact……and the teenager that had been previously battling with the unknown woman appeared beneath it. To be promptly engulfed by the laser, which changed color, a deep purple instead of red……
“Ohhh snap!!” exclaimed Maddy, noticing this change. Whatever was causing that could not be good. “C’mon, baby, turnoff! Do it for Maddyyyy……Yes!” he exclaimed, jumping into the air. Words were blinking up at him from the computer screen. K.I.D.D.A.F.Y.R. - R.A.Y. : status - shutting down.
WWWwwwwwooommmmm.
…And the glowing device did just that, much to the relief of the kid scientists.
“….,”
“…..,”
“…..,”
“Anybody mind telling me WHAT the heck just happened here?” asked Charlie.
“Well, I-“
“Look!” shouted another techy, pointing her finger across the room.
…Pointing…at the curled up figure of an eleven year old girl, unconscious on the testing pad….. right where, unknown to the children, a teen had been just a few seconds before……
