Abby sighed gently as she glanced outside, watching the snowflakes fall to the ground lazily. She gently exhaled, creating fog against the cold window. What to do? Nigel didn't want his team going out into a blizzard for any missions. So..what was there to actually do? Wiping the fog she made upon the window, Abby then leaned her head gently against the cold glass, her hat falling off her head. She shivered, the coldness seaping out from the cracks within the window. Winter was her favorite season, but the coldness got the best of her.
"Cold?" A voice interrupted her thoughts. Turning around she saw one of her best friends. He smiled some and she beamed as he came to sit next to her.
"A little." Abby said, fumbling with the hairband of her braid that laid lazily over her shoulder. He nodded a little bit, watching the snow fall.
"Nice that Numbuh 1 gave us a day off 'cause of the blizzard." He said. Abby nodded.
"Yeah. Numbuh 5 figured he'd jus' tell us to make the best o' it." She said, wanting to lean her head on his shoulder so badly. The frangrance of hard work and motor oil from him entered her nose. He was the one who somehow kept the team together.
"Ya know, you can see your eyes a lot better without your hat." He said, a hand reaching up to slip a loose strand of her bangs behind her ear.
"That's better." He said, smiling softly. Abby's cheeks turned a shade of crimson.
"Thanks.. That's real sweet of ya." She said, grinning a little bit.
"No problem." He said. Even though his eyes were hidden, it didn't matter. His eyes were beautiful and his smile made her heart stop in it's tracks. Sometimes, she just wanted to lay in his arms forever and listen to his breathing. Was it love? Abby shook her head gently.
"What's on your mind?" He asked her. Abby glanced to him.
"Hm.. Ever love someone so much, it hurt your heart?" She asked him. He was silent for a long time.
"Yeah." He finally spoke up. "I thought I loved someone.. But she was just an image in my mind I couldn't grasp onto. I began to deny the fact and it worked for a long time. But then.. She came back. But it wasn't her. It was another replica. I kept telling myself 'No!' But the girl was everywhere I turned. I even saved her life once.." He said. Abby was surprised about his comeback.
"Abby bets the girl is real special." She whispered, knowing the girl wasn't her. He nodded.
"She is very special to me. And I hope I can tell her how much she means to me before we get decommisioned." He said. Abby raised her eyebrow.
"She's apart of the Kids Next Door?" She asked. He nodded again.
"Yeah. She really helps her team, ya know? She might as well be the leader." He said. Abby felt jealousy churning her stomach. He was silent for a long time again. It seemed like forever until his lips parted and the words escaped.
"She's been the girl I've been watching over, for sometime now. She's beautiful in everywhich way I look at her. It's hard to look at her and not see the beauty. It's hard not to look in her eyes and be stuck in a trance for all eternity. It's hard not to find the kindness in her touch and the gentle reassurance in her voice. And I love her. And I always will. Because that girl is you." He said. Abby's eyes built up tears until they had no option but to flow down her cheeks. She was unable to say anything until a finger gently wiped her tears away. Abby then leaned her head on his shoulder.
"I love you, too, Hoagie. And I always will.. Always will."
