Are we like, bring topics back from the dead? We had a 1/5 hunter and books discussion sometime back in a original thread.

sesquipedalian, n -> given to the overuse of long words;
It comes for the latin root meaning 'a foot and a half' which, by the way, is a reference to the length of the words. Nifty, isn't it? ;D

I know of two such words. There's the grandiose hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia and the more pedestrian sesquipedalophobia.
Cruel to the poor hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobic folks ain't it?

See, MarEla? Reading--particularly reading dictionaries--opens up a whole world of weird words that no one else will even vaguely understand.
Great for mind expansion!

Madame Hoagie's Gal-It is!
hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia-My friend and I made this joke about it a while ago:
Doctor: I'm sorry, Bob. But you have this *holds up sign with hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia on it* Bob: *Looks at sign, screams, then faints*
...It was pretty funny at the time...

Yes! Cool words such as Donaudampfschiffahrtselektrizitätenhauptbetriebswerkbauunterbeamtengesellschaft.
Or the more familliar pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis.
It's a joyful world of sesquipedalian delights out there!

I'm going to try and take a crack at figuring out what pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis means:
Pneumo=lungs Ultramiroscopic=infinitely small silicovolcano=silicone in the volcano
Is that a disease caused by inhaling smoke from a volcano eruption?

Donaudampfschiffahrtselektrizitätenhauptbetriebswerkbauunterbeamtengesellschaft - The transport company calls themselves that?!
Anyone know the longest real word ever?
Smiles! there a mile between the S's!
pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis-a lung disease caused by the inhalation of very fine silica dust, mostly found in volcanos.
You were really close!

Very close. It's what you get when you breathe very fine sillica dust found in, yes, volcanoes. The dust is fine enough to get to your lungs and sharp enough to cause major bleeding havoc. Mind you, if your passtimes include volcano-exploration you have other things to worry about aside from a lung disease.
@marela
Nuh-uh! Everyone knows it's beleaguered! A league is considerably longer than a mile y'know.

Woah those are long words @-@ I had some kind of reading test today... Sadly, more than half was guessing on my part. I'm just glad it wasn't for a grade.
And on a 2/5 note, I caught like, 2 seconds of SPANK, and I loved the part where they were running and she grabbed his arm. Man, come to think of it... Those two do a lot of arm grabbing. Someone needs to count that.
