1/4 is, in my opinion, an okay couple. I think it's pretty cute, but it's not my favorite slash couple. Actually, it's a really freaky coincidence-- Kind of off-topic but... if you match KND characters to Harry Potter characters like this: 1 - Harry 2 - Ron 4 - Draco ... then my couple preferences and the couple preferences of other fans in general are exactly the same. See, 1/4 is the most popular slash couple in KND fandom, and so is Harry/Draco, but I personally don't like either (I think it might be because they're so popular, but I'm not sure). However, my favorite KND slash couple is 2/4, and coincidentally, my favorite HP slash couple is Ron/Draco. I also like Harry/Ron and 1/2 but I like them more in a best-friends kind of way. I remember when I was reading GoF, and Harry was like, "Hermione's nice and all, but she's not Ron," I was like, "Oh, that's so cute!" but I don't really think of them as a couple. So anyway, I think 1/4 is pretty cute, but I'm not really a fan of it, possibly because there are a lot of fans already. Very well explained, Tako!! I really like how you compared the 3 KND guys with the 3 HP guys. You're right about 1/4 and Harry/Draco being the most popular slash couples from their area(KND + HP). Weird thing is, I support 1/4 and a little bit of Harry/Draco. I'm personally not too big on slash but those 2 are some couples i support. Another thing bout 4 and Draco, both are my personal faves from their area and i just plain love em both(draco's hotter but thas cuz wallys the cute one in KND where as Chad is the hottie)

I'm such an idiot! I just realized that this thread existed. 1/4 is, in my opinion, an okay couple. I think it's pretty cute, but it's not my favorite slash couple. So anyway, I think 1/4 is pretty cute, but I'm not really a fan of it, possibly because there are a lot of fans already. That was impressive. (However...I really don't like Harry/Draco. Sirius/Remus on the other hand...*eyes turn into hearts*) Very good comparisons to HP/KND slash. Okay, my 1/4 opinion: My favorite KND slash couple. It's absolutely adorabibble and has tons of canon proof to back it up. *wears 1/4 button*

Yeah, I'm with Nella in seeing it as more Sirius/Remus. I mean, the 'best friends' or 'leader/right hand man' dynamic is the most signature feature of the whole 1/4 thing, at least in my oppinion.
The undeniable, unrealistic sexiness of Harry/Draco comes from how improbable it is and the angst such a revalation would cause. A lot of 1/4 fics are angst-tastic (and I accept my share of the blame for that), but more from reasons of character (One and Four both having hang-ups that would impede falling into one another's arms and assorted) than the H/D pairing's reasons of sittuation.
In most H/D fics I've ever seen, what the author feels seperates the two protaganists is birth and history- little attenetion is paid to reconciling an open, confidant, innocent boy with a private, insecure, somewhat introverted and more sophisticated one. Other than the physical attraction and the appeal of the exotic 'dark' or 'light', little attention is paid to what qualities attracted them to each other or might keep their relationship together. I sometimes wonder what they do when not in the theroes of angst or sex. Do Draco and Harry just go play conversation-free catch on their brooms and call it a date?
In a 1x4 fic, you have the leisure or the burden of doing just that- you start with people whose sittuations are aligned and you have to work hard to reconcile/are blessed with the richness of examining them as people.

As interesting as a 1/4 slash pairing sounds, I don't think it's going to happen anytime soon. I think Wally looks up to (well, DUH, he IS the shortest) Nigel as more like a leader/mentor/smarter buddy type than a romantic interest. I haven't found any evidence at all that supports the notion there might be something more to their relationship other than purely platonic. However, I do think the concept is interesting and the slash pairing fan fiction on the Net is pretty entertaining. JMO, though.
