Things that make me grrr

I hope this is in the right thread ^^;

well, I have this little issue I thought I could share with you. And I'm hoping I'm not just paranoid about it.

It's about people who just need to be right, or have the last say about anything. I myself in the past was like that, but I've learnt that you just make enemies faster that way.

My example: I recently posted a few pictures on DA. One, which was for christmas, i decided to put a little note stating that I didn't want everyone telling me what was wrong with it, as I knew what I had done wrong. Also being a christmas picture, I wasn't in the mood for a downer. Right? No harm done?
Well, unfortunately that little comment I requested was basically asking for someone to critique my picture. I'm sorry, but if someone goes "Don't jump of a cliff." Do you go ahead and do it? I don't think so (ok, maybe that was an extreme example, but bear with me).

So, being as nice as I could, explained that I had requested for this comment to not be said. Luckily that said person was casual about it and said nothing more.
But when I put another picture up without the warning, I get no critique whatsoever. Does this mean that if I place warnings on my pictures, that becomes an invitation for people to put my work down/make a speech to prove they're smarter than I am?

I had also posted up a cosplay photo of myself and another girl as a Yaoi/Shonen ai couple. It was nothing crude, just a bit of hugging here and there.
My point was, someone (who said they had never even let Naruto pierce their eyes) told a big Naruto fan that this was incorrect as the characters were enemies and that they couldn't begin to say how wrong the pairing was.
I'm sorry, but my shippings/pairings in shows are about as wrong as the next persons. I just thought "that was probably one of the stupidest comments I've ever recieved." because I know that the two characters aren't friends, and definately not lovers, but as fan-cosplay and fan-posing, I'm entitled to like it, no?

But the thing that gets me about some people is that they go to certain pictures and leave comments like "omfg this is soooo gross!!1!" or "That character can't be with so-and-so coz he's with what's-her-face in MY pictures!!1"
For these people, I just think "Why did you even click the picture in the first place if you really don't like the topic/subject/characters in it? That's like, the stupid of stupidity.

So there we have it. My little rant *gets off high horse* And please, if you've experienced a similar thing, discuss it here. I'm sure I'm not the only one that has this issue with people

It's true. I THRILL when I get a decent critique, as that doesn't happen nearly enough.

Another annoyance, though a rather small one, is when someone leaves a comment that contains the phrase, "I don't like this couple, but..." anywhere in it. Just gets annoying after a while. I mean, I'm GLAD they like my drawings even if they don't like the couple, but is the disclaimer really necessary?

Also, original art. Stuff that isn't connected with any fandom. Hardly ANY comments at all on those. And I"m not the only one who is irritated by this, I know. I work a lot harder on my original Maitown characters than my fanarts, which can take as little as half an hour to draw, ink, and color; but any fanart I do will get a LOT more attention than my original drawings, no matter how crappy the fanart or how good the original art.

oh i completely agree with both of them. Sure, original characters are your own creation, but you'd think people would be fascinated by them more than they really are.

as for the couple comment.....they seriously should not comment at all. Or even contemplate clicking on the piece of art in the first place

No kidding. I mean, I think my characters are interesting. Granted, it's easier to develop interest in a character when you have a reference. Like, Moon-Fayth does comics, and that's how I came across her. I saw one of her pages on the front page, and it looked good, so I started reading it. Now I have an actual INTEREST in her characters.

That's why I did my little crap-tastic test-run comic for my characters. People like them, so I know what to keep and got ideas to further develop them.

Of course you're right!

It seems like if you draw a crap picture of a fandom, instant favourite. If you draw a really good, nice picture, people go "eh, I don't like it"

What the heck has happened to people that knew the difference?!?*hangs head* I may as well draw stick people of character ships that people love doing vulgar things, I'll get more pageviews then -.-'

It's very rare that an artist can get popular from OCs. Justflyakite and crouchingkitty were able to. More power to them, I say.

Actually, the former got so popular, he did a sketch of a poopy on a dare that it wouldn't make the front page, even asking people in the comments NOT to fav it so he'd win the bet.

He lost the bet.

Which comes back to the "people can't read" bit I get upset about.

I actually search the site alot. I see a screenshot with writing on makes more comments and favourites than an actual piece of artwork that has had hours put into it. Yet the one that has had 3 seconds of thought is more popular. I really don't get it

It's VERY annoying.

Another thing is some of the stuff that gets Daily Deviations. For the most part, they are very good at selecting things. Then... then there are the time where they choose something that has about 2 seconds of thought, or should have been reported as porn (misuse of the Artistic Nude category). Those irritate me to NO end. And I"m not talking about fair-drawn comics that are funny, like Boob Tube or the Compromise ones. I;m talking the ones that are, say, a gradient-filled 50x50 square with a face drawn in it. WTF?

Although it is rather nice when you do a search for soemthing and see one of your drawings on the first page. ^^ Do a Guild Wars search; my Guild Titans picture shows up on the second or third row. It makes me smug, because there's a FAR more popular artist who did a GW pic, and her image is further down than mine.

You can't be more right about that. Even some of the worst fanart can get more credit than original fanart. I'll admit (with much shame), I don't often search original artwork as often as I do fanart for a show or movie I like. You're totally right, Suki. It's unfair to so many talented artists out there who don't follow a fandom.

Something that gets to me only on rare occasions is when people ask questions about the video/picture/fanfic, and the answer is clear in the description. Not necessarily a case for me specifically, but I notice it a lot, especially on YouTube. For instance, I made a trailer for INTERVIEWS, and at least three people asked me where I got the clips of the episode. I realized that it would be best to just put the answer in the video description. I do that, then three more people ask me that same question.

Agreed. I found I got asked something that I already said in my comment box. I still have yet to get bad comments though, so I don't get that feeling. I guess I've been playing safe. Still, I got less pageviews than shipping pics.

It's hard to get an OC to be popular unless it has a good/original storyline. I had been reading some e-comics, but all have to do with videogames. I sometimes wonder if one draws something NOT about videogames, and not in any fandom, would it be popular? I imagine it'd be very hard, like when a new writer want his/her book to become a bestseller.

That said, I haven't search DA for any particular art yet; I just follow links from this forum.

I TOTALLY agree with that.

Most times when I post things like stories/pictures and all, they're not recognised even if it's better than most people's crappy work. I think I placed 'Falling for the Enemy' in another one of my sister's fan club thingys and they laughed at my face, complaining this and that! I mean people asked me the same question, "Is this a 1x5?" And it's so obvious, I mentioned it a hundred times and then they go all, "Good plot but I hate it. Put some 1x362 in it or some 2x5, or even 4x5. Because I hate 1x5." Hey, I warned them a hundred times!

It's SO ANNOYING!

Even when I put a picture of my favorite slash couple in Danny Phantom, Pitch Pearl, people see it as an offense even if the only thing that they're doing is watching a movie or asking question, it's not even that dovey lovey. It just pains me to see them think of my pictures like that even though they're nothing wrong with them! I totally agree at that point. They're like, "You're so disgusting, drown in the ocean!" When I drew my beach scene. THey're NOTHING wrong with two boys playing aroud in the water in the ocean. And I warned them a hundred times.

That just makes me angry but I never talk back because as some people say, I am too soft for my own good!
