I posted this because it seems like all the Republicans in Congress are for the current war and I wanted to know if these politicians actually represent the wishes of Republicans in general.

Having just switched over from Democrat to Republican (only for Giuliani), my thoughts on the war are such:
At the time, it seemed like there was credible evidence for war on Iraq. I believed Saddam had weapons. I believed he had ties to al Qaeda. I don't think Bush deliberately lied, but he relied on faulty intelligence. After 9/11, emotions were so high that people wanted to make an example out of an Arab country. In the end, I think the Iraqis will be better off with a democracy than under a dictatorship. That being said, we can't run the war the way it is being run now. There needs to be a real exit strategy, and we have to wrap up our mission as quickly as possible, without leaving the country to fall into the hands of Islamofascists. Saying people died for oil or they died for nothing is a slap in the face to the families whose children volunteered because they wanted to serve their country. At the same time, we seriously need to figure out how we're going to get the hell out of there.
