www.asuwebdevil.com/issues/2007/11/29/opinions/702952Monique Devoe does raise a very good point. Why the hell do religious people complain about supposedly anti-religious things and non-religious people don't complain about religious things? If a movie director made a movie that depicted Christian themes in a negative light such as a movie that depicted the men involved in the Inquisition as bloodsucking schmucks or a movie making evangelicals look like total dumbasses with shitty, fanatical personalities, it would make several million at the box office because all of the critics complaining and the controversy has basically done all the advertising for the movie. And I'm considering seeing The Golden Compass.

You do have a point. Some religious people said that Harry Potter was Wiccan and stuff like that... I mean, if you don't like fantasy, then why the hell do you read it?

I was thinking the exact same thing. I mean we (us non-religious people) usually don't go so... insane when TBN puts out a new Christian movie or whatever.
Geez, they've been doing news stories on the Golden Compass so much, my Mom said she wanted to run out to the store and buy all the GC books. ^^
Can't anything ever just be a fun story, anymore, I mean, seriously?

They'd rather kids read the Bible, a 100% magic-free book featuring a main character who walks on water and turns five fish into five thousand.

I'll say it again: Why did God give us brains if His followers believe that thinking for yourself is evil?

If the person hate fantasies, why read it in the first place? Then what does the person going to do, sue the authors?! That will be stupid for an action like that.

I'll say it again: Why did God give us brains if His followers believe that thinking for yourself is evil? Exactly. Good point, if the followers of the Almighty Lord think that they are evil, then why are thinking this? Now, why does Religious people tend to make fantasy infamous. Take Pokemon like an example, those Catholics, Protestants, whatever tried to burn things related to them and try to make it infamous just because it was a fad... I sometimes think that religious leaders are becoming like paranoid like ''Pokemon is the work of blah blah, taking our innocent blah blah blah." Come on people, if you don't like it, then stay the heck away from it. Yay! I got quoted!

Sometimes being too religious is no good unless you're a monk or a priest that is. It could hurt others, in the end, it'll hurt yourself. I was very religious last time, until I have to step down from those when my friends begin to hate my religious topics and myself.
Anyway, whatever or whoever is responsible for this will have to speak in front of many other religious leaders who don't mind loving or liking fantasy genres, and also the Christian fans who loves the fantasy genres. Me, I am a Christian as well as a fantasy genre fan.

Lads could I make a point that most religouse people dont give two shits about stuff like that, use the word extremists and saying religouse people is an unfair use.
After reading the article though they are saying because its purly a fantasy, well I know groups across the pound are gone mad as the guy wrote the book to make kids not believe in God.Kevin smith who has stated he believes in God points out that they would go after anything,"just look at Dogma,it had a rubber poop monster and they call it evil"
And again not trying to insult but must point it out that it is most in the states again, any one see that survey on Digg, what was it like 69% or somehwere in the 60 % of people believe in creationist or was it the devil instead of darwin and how people in Europe((go team)) are looking at th country in shock as Creationtism is thought along evolution.

Well, it's a crazy world out there. But still, fantasy does not mean to create dark magic and so forth. To say that fantasy is the devil, well, must be those watchers had become too influenced with the genre and say sorcery and dragons are all a bunch of crap, in the end, they say it comes from Hell.
I still consider that is stupid like we all said here, fantasy is by the power of out-of-the-box imaginations, not a gift that comes from either Heaven or Hell, the 2 of them has nothing to do with providing fantasy as a gift of pure evil.

Protesters who hates fantasies? Whow, I'm going to die if I would go there and tell them, it's just like back to the Pope Benedict 16 Islam Controversy (In my opinion or thinking), no way! It'll create religious wars in that way.
Let the protest be, it won't work, if they want to open fire with rocks and hard pushes, say hello to the SWAT teams full of batons and tear gas. If they want to open fire with guns, say hello to the bigger guns, the SWAT's assault rifles. XD

You should know that the religious fundamentalist kook minority doesn't speak for the majority.
I mean, religion is supposed to make you a better person, not a jerk. It's easy to see why people turn away from it.

You should know that the religious fundamentalist kook minority doesn't speak for the majority. I mean, religion is supposed to make you a better person, not a jerk. It's easy to see why people turn away from it. Unfortuantly not many people see either anymore.I can remember seeing on a tv show before,a guy texted in and it basically said how ALL people who are religouse or so on in some way believe in creationitsim and how THEY are stupid for beliving in it...I honestly wanted to hit that guy for being so stupid for basing a minority on the majority. and 1337 you really need to dulldown the exaduration there, the protestors at for things like these stand outside the cinema with signs and pray, not throwing rocks at police and causing genral mayham.

Ok ok, yes, time to cool down. Anyway, I close my comments. So far, protestors are like all the mayhem and stuff when it comes to political corruptions, my bad for the wrong explanations. But for something minor like fantasy is the devil, well, it won't do much.
Standing outside the cinema won't get them anything. It's just like last time I have a few friends that wants to protest against Google for buying Youtube, but it is their wrong for the copyright laws that they broke, so it's worthless, in the end, they go find new video hosts to replace their lost videos in Youtube. Even if they protests, they hate to lose, also they are wasting their time, then, they decided to find new hosts instead, which saves their cost and time.
