Theese 2 shows have a lot in common, Dont they?
1. they both have talking dogs 2. they both have powers that skipped their parents generation 3. they both have annoying siblings that have some form of the same powers. 4. they both have grandparents that have/had the powers that they do. 5. they are both Chinese. 6.they both cant tell their friends about their powers( but in American dragon, they find out anyway.) 7. they both have to protect the magical and human worlds.
feel free to post any more similarities or differences.

Theese 2 shows have a lot in common, Dont they? Both shows are of the "Magical Girl" genre (okay, so maybe it's "Magical Boy" in Jake Long's case) so they have a lot of similarities. The list you layed out below is pretty much the standard formula for these shows. Other examples include Devil Hunter Yohko, Sailor Moon, and possibly He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.

Personally, I can't help but wonder why CN even wanted to compete with a Disney show about a chinese stereotype. Though it's most likely a coincidence, both use tons of well known cartoon cliches, so you can't really say it's a ripoff.

Actually, I've always heard that the idea for Juniper Lee had been around since 1996 or so, that the creator had a wife who was Chinese and got the inspiration from her (I sure hope Juniper Lee's PMS isn't a reflection of his beloved's actual personality!), and that he originally tried to pitch it to DC as a comic book, but they turned it down.
I can't vouch for how much of that is true, though I'm sure the nationality of the creator's wife should be confirmable.

No way Juniper Lee is "Magical Girl"... there's no 10-minute long transformations and special attacks!

Jake Long really isn't that bad, if you don't mind the annoying voice he has. But Spud is teh cuteness. The new Spud.
Juniper Lee... HOLY CRAP! I just noticed that both names had JL has the initials... WHAT'S THE MATTER WITH DISNEY?!?! Rip-off...

WHAT'S THE MATTER WITH DISNEY?!?! Rip-off... You do know that Disney is, like, a company whose entire empire is built on making their own versions of other people's stories, right? Though I think it's unfair to accuse Jake Long of "ripping off" Juniper Lee since they both appeared pretty much at the same time.

Yeah, Disney seems to just rip off of others right now... *cough*TheWild*cough* Good point... Still, don't you think that how they both have the same initials is a bit... Fishy?

Yeah, Disney seems to just rip off of others right now... *cough*TheWild*cough* Right NOW? Ripping off others is how Disney has done business ever since Uncle Walt created an animated adaption of Snow White! Practically every movie they've made is based on a book or fairy tale or something... often something in the public domain so they don't have to pay royalties on it (which by extension allows them to copyright their own versions of the characters and mass-market them, which they do, regularly). Not at all. Actually it's to be expected really. For some reason it's almost stereotypical to give Chinese characters American firstnames that begin with J, while giving them family names that rhyme with "Ong" (Wong, Fong, Tong, and yes, even Long) or, oftentimes, "Lee." I'm not sure where all the "Ong" names come from, but "Lee" was made popular because of Bruce Lee, a popular movie actor who was also a skilled martial artist (and who had a son, Brandon Lee, who was just as talented). The initials JL aren't very uncommon either. Off the top of my head, I can think of a video game character who also has the JL initials (and his last name is "Lee," too--see if you can guess his first and what game I'm thinking about ^__^) as well as a popular comic book team of superheroes (again, see if you can't guess who).

Is it Jimmy Lee from Double Dragon, and Justice League from DC?
