Final Fantasies 7 and 9 will always have special places in my heart.

I just read that, in Final Fantasy VII (possible spoiler), its possible to get Cloud to date Yuffie during the second visit to Gold Saucer. I think I'll replay the game just to see that.

But it's very hard. You basically have to give negative responses towards Aeris, Tifa, and Barret (yeah, you heard that last one... they don't do much, though), and give positive responses toward Yuffie.

All you do with Barret is argue and listen to his emo ramblings, sadly or thankfully depending on your point of view.
Also you can get Tifa and Aeris to date if you treat them equally and have the cover materia on all the time.

The first several playthroughs I played the game I always got Aeris (because she had the highest compatibility points with you). After that, I got Tifa and I didn't know why. I thought it could be a random thing. It was only later I learned it was because I was nicer to her than Aeris.

Actually, what you do in battle has NOTHING to do with who you date. Its all about what you say to them in dialogue and whether they're in your party at certain points.
Anyway, I've just beaten the game again, and the second and third discs killed any desires I had to replay the game again.

Actually, what you do in battle has NOTHING to do with who you date. I was just kidding. I also thought Disk 1 was the most entertaining. 2 and 3 are just nonsensical and way too emo for my liking. Though the Weapon attacks were quite badass.

Most of my problem with Disc 2 is that it feels like the plot just drops away and Square isn't even trying to come up with remotely worthwhile/interesting areas for you to explore anymore.

Actually, what you do in battle has NOTHING to do with who you date. I was just kidding. And you were also kidding about dating both Aeris and Tifa at once earlier. D'oh. (slaps forehead) Anyway, I do admit the game kinda went a little boring after a certain event in Disc 2; Midgar was probably the best part of the game because there's so much cool stuff going on. The "Shinra's draining the planet of energy and it's dying" thing (which I felt was interesting) just went away when Sephiroth showed up. And hey, (@ James) you're right about the individual Materia... Didn't even think about that. Also, did any of you find it weird that your "reward" for defeating Ruby Weapon is an item to give an old man who will give you a Gold Chocobo? Well, geez, by the time you're powerful enough to even stand a chance against Ruby Weapon (best limits, high levels, getting Knights of the Round... with a gold chocobo you raised yourself!), the Gold Chocobo is useless. But overall, my main problem with the game is the ending, as I said before. I don't know, I just don't like inconclusive endings that much -- sometimes I'd WANT to know what happens to the characters in the end, and not the semi-lazy "I'll just leave every single detail up to you and not show anything" (except that Red XII will still be alive in 500 years).

I honestly didn't think FF7's ending was so non-conclusive. Holy comes and kicks meteor's @$$, and obviously if Red XIII survived then there's a good chance everyone else did as well.
Now, where the heck did Red find himself a female to mate with? Maybe the power of Holy created another one for him?

Actually, in the original version humanity all died out eventually, only leaving animals like Red XIII on earth, in some silly environmentalist message. The original director even stated it in an interview. However, they changed it so that the ending symbolises humanity being united with nature (Midgar being filled with plantlife originally meant that everyone died out, but it was easily changed), probably because it was a bit too depressing and they wanted to keep making money out of the FFVII franchise with endless sequels.
Also James, you kind of messed everything up there. Holy decided that humanity is too much of a plague to the planet and ended up HELPING Meteor. The lifestream then came out, with the power of Aeris and all the other non-evil characters that were killed or suicided during the game (including Barret's brother) destroying the meteor. Then Advent Children came out, which was basically more about self-acceptance without any environmentalist nonsense.
I personally like the modified ending more, even though it made Square release all those crappy sequels. It just feels a lot better knowing humanity lived on after you spent 50 hours mashing the attack/magic options and watching 1-minute long summon animations. =p

Thanks Iguana. Now that I know that though, I personally prefer the original "humanity dies" interpretation. I don't find it depressing at all.

Well FF7 was made with a kick-@$$ story so they can coninue it and they can make games/anime with what happened before FF7

I think FFX and particularly X-2 are somewhat of prequels to FF7, In X-2, you have the character called Shinra, who discovers the energy/lifeforce. In FF7, you have the Shinra Corporation hoarding this force.
