So, what is your favourite game type? I voted RTS.

I like fighting games a lot. Mainly classic titles, and I try to keep up with the King of Fighters series.

RPGs, I guess, but I like life simulations a lot too.

My favorite game type?
Well...
... I have a marked preference for the "Fun" persuasion ^__^.
But in all seriousness, it's hard to decide, as I'll play any type of game except for sports games (and I'll even play those on occassion--I loved Mega Man Soccer).
From 1995 to 2002, RPGs were my favorite, but I finally got sick of them due to over-exposure. I still play them, but I'm not like hardcore-fixated on them. Generally I tend to like games that either require some degree of thought (Strategy games for example), or are suspenseful and fast-paced (Racing or action games). I dislike games that focus too heavily on cinematics or storytelling... I mean if I wanted to watch a movie or read a book, I wouldn't be playing a video game.
Hmmm... I guess I'm going to have to go with "Other."
EDIT: Wouldn't "Real Time Strategy" and "Real Time Tactics" be essentially the same thing?

I assumed that Real Time Tactics was like those World War Two games where you play as a soldier or something.
I also like platformers a lot. Both 2D and 3D are good.

Personally, depending on which games the original poster was referring to, I would call those either First Person Shooters or Real-Time Strategy games (with all the examples named so far, I'm leaning towards FPS).

RTT - you're partially right. All the RTTs I know are the Commandos series, in which you command a small group of soldiers during World War Two. And, it's in third person, as you see your unit from above. In RTS games, you have to develop your economy too. The armies in RTS games are generally much bigger.

Hmmm... can you describe Commandos a bit more? It sounds to me like it could fit under RTS.

So, you're in world war two. You command an unit of about 10 soldiers with different specialties. One of the major differences between the second game and an RTS is that you can run out of ammunition. You can also check dead enemies' bodies for ammunition/stuff. The soldiers have more than one weapon, and they can disguise themselves, use explosives, many things. And the missions don't always mean to elliminate as many enemies as possible. Some missions' objectives are rescuing other soldiers or getting some documents.

That sounds a lot like the Jagged Alliance series, except in Real-Time.
Yea, I'd call that RTS.

I disagree. Jagged Alliance (I liked that game) feels like a RPG much more than a RTS. There's no C&C style harvest resources-build unit-upgrade-more resources-better unit-repeat cycle and the gameplay is closer to, say, BGII than to, say, Warcraft.
Anyways, I choose RPGs but I have a soft spot for old-skool adventure titles (ahh...Monkey Island...The good old days) and building sim style games (right now I'm reacquainting myself with Theme Hospital).

Jagged Alliance itself is turn-based, but Commandos sounds like what Jagged Alliance would be if it were a Real-Time game. Anyway, JA seems IMO to fit perfectly within the moniker of strategy.
*Sighs* I never got to play Monkey Island. Was heavily into King's Quest and Space Quest tho, and Zork.
