www.the-underdogs.org/To paraphrase it, it's a site for mostly-underrated or obscure PC (and some non-PC) games. Lots of stuff there, including freeware games. There are even some games that you (I) may not have found anywhere else... Anyways, go there. Now.

I know that site. It's where I got the first two Discworld games from. It's also where I got the games I played when I was little that nobody has heard of anymore.

I've been to that site too. It's a great site for discovering unknown games.
I remember finding "Weird Dreams" on that place.... a strange (and incredibly hard) European platform game.

A lot of older games won't work in WinXP. That's why I still have a Win98 computer set up.

That's strange, my copy of the Neverhood works in XP. Except it freezes when you get to the bridge, but that's only because the disc is old and stratched.

Yeah, there were quite a few games I wanted to try and downloaded, only to face disappointment when they wouldn't work because they're so old and won't work in XP. So it seems as if I have to try games past 2000 or so...
I've tried some regular action games. I played Doukutsu Monogatari (Cave Story) and Akuji the Demon. Akuji the Demon seems decent (kinda has the old-school side-scrolling platforming thing to it, although I only played the first room), but I'm really enjoying Cave Story. It gets bonus points for being Gamepad compatible and having controls (for Gamepad at least, didn't try keyboard yet) that don't suck. I highly recommend this game.
There weren't much freeware RPGs I was able to try, due to the whole really old/Windows XP thing. But then I've only tried the console-style ones; I don't think I'd find myself interested in the other types. Others either froze up/suffered slowdown or weren't too great; only ones I'd seriously play now is Warrior Dragon (though it's horribly unbalanced, I think if it weren't for the idea and music, I'd have trash it) and, the better of the two (IMO), Lost Valley.
Anyways, anyone recommend good freeware games that are action, console-style RPGs, or shooters? (Note: I use dial-up and the site doesn't allow download accelerators, so hopefully it won't be *too* big.)
edit: typos

Umm, if you guys are using a 1GHz PC or better, there's a program called DOSBox which might allow you to run the games that are "too old" for Windows XP. (It might work on a system that's less than 1GHz too).
Also, two games I recommend that are freeware: "5 Days a Stranger" and "7 Days a Skeptic." They're adventure games (that's a genre that's easy to play but hard to explain) and both horror-focused, but they're good.

Dosbox doesn't emulate the real experience at all. Anyway, Doukutsu (cave story) is simply amazing. Kudos to the random japanese guy who took 5 years to make it I'm up to the Grasstown bit, leveling up my bubble gun.

Dosbox doesn't emulate the real experience at all. Ummm... do you mean the real experience of playing DOS based games, or the real experience of using DOS, command lines and all? EDIT: About Underdogs, is it just me or are some of the games there not really underdogs? For example: 1. They've got the Romance of the Three Kingdoms series, which I'm sure is rathr popular. 2. They've got the PC Versions of the TMNT arcade games.

DOS games work on my computer, but I'm pretty sure it uses XP.
I checked out 7 Days A Stranger and 5 Days a Skeptic, but they look like the type of game I'd be too much of a wimp to play. I downloaded A Dark and Stormy Entry, which is a text Choose Your Own Adventure style game about a writer with writers block. That was kind of fun. Now I'm playing Princess Maker 2, where you get to raise your daughter however you want. I have two characters named after my OCs, and one called Cheaty McCheatington.

You can't get her breast implants, but you can buy a pill that makes her breasts slightly larger. I don't really see the problem with that. A lot of teenage girls want breast enlargement.
The closest you get to child prostitution is letting her work in a sleazy bar when she's fifteen. She can end up as a prostitute when she grows up, but I think that's hard to do.
That said, you can get a item through cheating where you can make her almost naked.
