I can't imagine there would be many people here who would be into book-based RPGs such as Dungeons & Dragons, but if anyone here is, I'd like to discuss those kinds of games!
I personally own two versions of D&D: The Basic/Frank Mentzer edition, and Advanced D&D 2nd Edition.
I also own two other book-based RPGs: Ghostbusters International and Shadowrun 1st Edition.
And I'd really like to have someone to play with... -__-

Well, I am an enormous fan of pen&paper RPGs, particular favourites include:
1) AD&D. My friends and I used to play this a great deal. I think I still have the big pile of house rules we had.
2) D&D 3.5: Lacks some of the luster of AD&D but you've got to move with the times. I think I have just about every supplement ever published for this.
3) D20: Modern/Future. I'm always up for a SF frp, particulary if I'm leading one of my "let's see how fast can I destroy the players" sessions.
4) CP2020. Gritty cyberpunk ain't really my thing but it makes for nice roleplay.
5) GURPS. It's a cool system. Provided you actually learn all of the byzantine rules. Haven't played it much.
An ide that's been bouncing around my head for a while now is an KND d20 based RPG. I've been joting down some notes (mostly during particulary boring bits in lectures), and I think it has potential. Opinions?

2) D&D 3.5: Lacks some of the luster of AD&D but you've got to move with the times. No, you don't. ESPECIALLY not when it comes to entertainment. I mean, it's not like God's gonna strike me dead if I say "I'm not gonna play D&D 3.5," and it's not like there won't be anyone around with whom to play the older versions either (I actually found a group of people who still play D&D by the original 1971 rules!) So sorry for the outburst, it's just that "you've gotta get with the times" is one of the biggest myths out there and I wanna do everything possible to quash it! That being said, wanna play?

Well, perhaps I should have said "You have to move with your FRP group". Because if they say "we're playing D&D 3.5" that's what we are playing. Full stop.
Mind you, I've worked in so many house rules into D&D 3.5 it now no longer resembles ANYTHING endorsed by Wizards of the Coast.
That all being said, Sure, I'm always (Numbuh 2 moment comming up) game for (wait for it...) a game[/b] (pause for laughter). How exactly do you want to play it? We'll need more than two players (unless we make it a freeform "continue the story" thing which would also be cool).
Also, any thoughts on the KND D20 FRP? (how's that for TLA heaven! ;D)

How exactly do you want to play it? Preferably with character sheets, dice, and a firm imagination. It's d20, that's enough for me to lose interest. Actually, I had once made character stats for Sector V using the Basic D&D rules. I think that system works best for KND really.

Actually, I had once made character stats for Sector V using the Basic D&D rules. I think that system works best for KND really. James, we are quite possibly several thousand kilometers distant. Unless you've mastered the Trek transporter tech, I think we may run into some problems. I mean, I can shout pretty loud, but not THAT loud. As for the KND FRP, when I say d20 I meant "a system that looks sort of like D&D and uses the twenty-sided die" I did not mean a specific Wizards product. Glancing at my notes I see that I have done away with the skill progresion, reworked the class system and did something unspeakable to the feats. It now looks like a bizzare mutant form of AD&D, 3.5e D&D and, for some reason, GURPS. I till think a KND RPG would have great possibilities. (Kuki Sanban, A.K.A. Dude... you don't have to be right next to me to play. It can be done over the internet.

I concede the point, it's true, it CAN be done over the 'net but it can be a littel tricky (combat scenes, for instance either have to be done with modified rules or on IRC). My earlier question was more on the lines of "what modification of the base rules do we plan to use so we can play over the internet".
Still, if you're willing to play, I am too. However there's only two of us and that's hardly enough for a D&D game, any idea where we can get more players?

I'm looking. Hopefully someone else from this forum will be interested. In awhile, I might see if I can arrange something with some folks from Knights & Knaves, and some of my AIM friends.
I'd prefer to play over AIM, by the way, but yea there's a few complications--namely I'm more concerned about timezone. I don't get to get on until late at night usually, and by then most people in my country (the USA) are asleep. Course I don't mind international players, but usually they're not interested.
