You know what I think is funny? The fact that nobody has posted in the zelda thread in a month.

This oughtta liven up the gaming board a little bit: earlier today, Governor Schwarzenegger signed into law a bill that would prohibit anyone under 18 from buying games containing "explicit violence." The law makes no mention of the ESRB rating system, and leaves it to store clerks to decide what can and cannot be sold to kids. I'm disappointed that Arnold, of all people, would sign this game into law. He surely faced the same pressure from parents' activist groups over some of his movies throughout his career, and he knows that a large demographic that enjoyed his violent films was under 18. Also, under this law, it's apparently fine for a kid to watch the Terminator movies, but not to play a game based on these same movies. That is a ridiculous double standard. I think we found out who the real girlie man is today.

I voted for him in the first election, even though I voted against the recall. Aside from this, I think he has done a pretty good job. The soda thing was a mistake too, and not just because I like soda. Vending machines brought in a lot of money for the schools, and people are just not going to be spending as much as they once did for milk and water.
As for the game bill, let's look at some of the high-ranking Democrats who could possibly challenge Arnold next year:
Lieutenant Governor Cruz Bustamante: Openly supports the bill.
Treasurer Phil Angelidas: Openly supports the bill.
Assembly Speaker Pro Tem Leland Yee: Author of the bill.
We are stuck between a rock and a hard place. In a way, so was Arnold. I think that at least part of the reason he signed this is, if he vetoed it, his opponents could point out his ties with the entertainment industry, including the fact that he appears in the Terminator games, and accuse him of having a conflict of interest. The same thing happened last year, when he vetoed a bill that would ban the sales of dietary supplements to kids. Critics accused him of giving in to the fitness industry, which he still had ties to. He also signed that bill this week (if you're so worried about obesity, keep the soft drinks, and encourage kids to take some Stacker 2 and take the fat off that way). Still, the best thing for him to do in this position would be to do nothing and wait 2 more days, where it would have become law under California law anyway.
