By old-school, I mean, games from BEFORE the Playstation 2, X-Box, GBA, and Gamecube. Heck, Games from BEFORE the Playstation and N64. I'm talking about around the time of the Sega Genesis, Super Nintendo, and the TurboGrafx (I'll have a heart attack if I'm not the only one on this forum who has ever owned a TurboGrafx), at the time when a computer running at 200 MHz was considered "fast," or any game from before this period.
So, anyone here remember that far back?

Oh, yeah. Even though I remember those old-school classics, I've actually never owned anything by Nintendo. I don't have anything against Nintendo, it just worked out that way. Everybody else had an NES, I had an Atari 7800 (in retrospect, that was a mistake), and when everybody else had an SNES, I had a Genesis. Back then, arcades actually got some business too. The one in my town had a deal where you paid to spend a certain number of hours there, and you got unlimited access to all games, without having to put any quarters or tokens in.
The big games of my day were the kings of the fighting-game genre, Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat. I so used to rule with Vega at SF2.

The big games of my day were the kings of the fighting-game genre, Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat. I so used to rule with Vega at SF2. I was always a good Ryu player ^__^. Mortal Kombat was never my cup of tea though (Street Fighter had depth and complexity, Mortal Kombat had lots of blood). I sure wish I had known an arcade like that though... maybe I would've finally beaten some of the tough-as-nails games they used to have in the arcades back then (Sunset Riders, Willow, etc.) I owned an Atari 2600 and an Oddysey 2 (Okay, THAT'S going back a ways!) and even one of those old machines that didn't have cartridges and could only play variations of Pong. Personally though, when it comes to console gaming I feel the NES is when things started to really get good. On the other hand, the PC had stuff like Wizardry, Ultima, Might & Magic, Commander Keen, Wolfenstein, Pool of Radiance, Space Quest, King's Quest, and Duke Nukem before he went 3D, so computers were kind of ahead of the competition in a few ways. But I didn't really get into computer gaming for awhile. For me, I spent most of my childhood plugging away at the NES. Then the Sega Genesis came out and I wanted that, but only until the SNES came out (I didn't get a Sega CD or a TurboGrafx until years later--in fact I bought the TurboGraphx myself off Ebay just a few months ago). The SNES was the dominant console in my house for awhile (in fact I pretty much disowned my Genesis at this time), mostly because I had gotten into RPGs like the Final Fantasy games, and the SNES had more of them than the Genesis did, though it later turned out that, no matter how many the SNES had, the Genesis had a few that simply could not be ignored (Shining Force, Phantasy Star, Super Hydlide, and a great conversion of Might & Magic II). I would go on, but I can't see any opportunities to plug more old-school games -__^

Well, I used to have a Genesis when I was 6 years old. I used to have Outrunners, Mortal Kombat 3, that cheap five games in one cartridge from the cheap store and Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.
Then I usually play it on emulators when they don't make it anymore.

I'm only sixteen. I didn't get any gaming console until Christmas '98. I was an N64. But I really loved playing my cousin's Super Nintendo. Now I have a SNES emulator.

Aw, man, it was all about the Sega Genesis. That console was the best. Some of my absolute favorite video games ever are on Sega Genesis, specifically Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Sonic and Knuckles (it was so awesome that you could stick those two games together) and another game no one has probably ever heard of called Comix Zone. I think that game had probably the best music ever. I also liked Mortal Kombat, but I never played it too much. I lost interest in my Sega when I was around fifth grade, but in eighth grade I torn apart my basement in an attempt to find it, and I did. Then I ODed on Comix Zone and Sonic 3. I was also an avid Doom 3 player on my Mac. Those monsters were amazing.

Megadrive favs: Sonic Series Nes: SMB and some Chip and Dale game I used to play when I was 5 (don't laugh, it was quite fun) Snes favs: Kirby Super Star, Super Mario World 1 and 2, Mario Allstars N64: Mario 64, Zelda OOT and MM, Perfect Dark, Conker, Banjo games etc etc (as you can see I'm a big N64 fan ) Chip n' Dale Rescue Rangers, you mean? The game where you attacked stuff by throwing boxes at everything? THAT GAME WAS AWESOME ^__^ I loved that in the two-player mode, you could pick up the other player and toss HIM ^__^. I just got done Over-dosing on my NES, actually. I spent all of last sunday playing Ultima: Exodus (the most effing difficult RPG ever concieved), and ultimately got fed up and played Final Fantasy 4 instead. And now I'm about to plunge right back into Exodus...

O, Super Nintendo.
Super Ghools and Ghosts can go bite me. To this DAY I only have gotten past level four. Then again, I was something like nine at the time. ^^;; Phah.

I played the original in the arcades.... never could get past the first level.

Ah, I remember... My family owned an Atari, NES, SNES and Genesis. My big brother and I would play them all the time... Like the duck hunting game, Mario, Donkey Kong, The Legend Of Zelda...
Sadly, one of the systems broke down... I think it was the Genesis. o.o So then we sold the NES and SNES at a garage sale. But we kept the Atari around for a while longer... then we sold it too.
;_; It makes me sad that we got rid of those. Well... at least I have a SNES ROM on my computer... o.o

Anyone else an Earthbound fan? That is one of the best RPGs for the SNES. I wanna join the cult that paints everything blue ^__^ (I can't quite remember what those guys were called... but I remember the magic butterflies, that photographer who shows up sparodically throughout the game, and the scratch-n-sniff cards that came with the strategy guide...) And yea, Earthbound was one of my favorite Super Nintendo games. I was the kid who bought it, somehow knowing it would be awesome, DESPITE every magazine out at the time basically bashing it. I, as usual, was right and they were all wrong ^__^.
