The Gamecube - Kiddy console or not?

Short answer: Would a "kiddy console" have the likes of Metroid Prime on it? I don't think so.

Long answer: I dealt with this whole "The GCN is a KIDDIE CONSOLE!!!111" a lot when I was more involved in video game forums. Sure, the GCN has a lot of "E" titles, but doesn't the PS2? Yet no one is screaming, "THE PS2 SI A KIDDIE CONSOLE!!11"

Perhaps the true source of the "reputation" comes from the fact that Nintendo makes "brightly colored" games for its system. However, there are a few things wrong with that:

- Some people think that any game that doesn't have blood, violence, or 'realistic' surroundings is a kiddy game. Of course, that isn't true.
- The fact that Nintendo tends to keep its games at the same 'graphic type' as it did back in the days of the NES (bright and surreal). However, it doesn't derail from its difficulty. Super Mario Bros. sure wasn't easy.
- Kiddy games are supposed to be easy. However, even today's Mario games are not easy, or at least easy to beat at one setting. And how about the Zelda games? Those aren't easy.

So no, in my opinion, the GCN is not a kiddie console. However, that doesn't stop the fanboys of other consoles from calling it that. After all, it effectively pisses people off, so who cares about facts?

I've played kiddy games, but my not on my Gamecube. I still can't beat Pikmin.

Ah yes, it's nice to see that this forum's members are not console fanboys. And yes, the GC is NOT kiddy. And no, fanboys aren't the only reason people think Nintendo is kiddy. Nintendo of America's trailers also help. I burst into laughter after watching Pikmin 2's TV Spot. Same goes for Super Mario Sunshine. SInce there's no direct link, go to www.gametrailers.com and search for "pikmin 2" and "Super mario sunshine" then select "TV Spot". While Mario Sunshine is a great game, Nintendo of America advertise it like a Fisher Price toy. Go see the ad if you have no idea what I'm talking about. Also, the Pikmin 2 trailer is pure hilarity.

I don't believe it as a kiddie console. The gamecube games require sometimes quite a bit of thinking that a kid can't do. A true kiddie console is... a leapster >.>

I find that alot of the screaming on how the Gamecube is a kiddie console is the same direction where the XBox camp is, where the latest and greatest is the XBox and all its game selection (where the same selection can be found on the Playstation 2 ... and all they really play is Halo/Halo 2).

I don't understand...why would anyone think Gamecube is a kiddie console? I would prefer fun wholesome games over blood and gore anyday. I know some people who won't play any game anything below M. I swear, some people...

NGC has mature games, but then they have games for children. It's just that PS2 has more mature and teen games than Nintendo......

Gamecube is the only console to have the game bob the builder on it. If gamecube has the game tourok or however its spelled its not kiddy but its nothing like xbox.

people just dont like gamecube because it doesnt have that many games like ps2 or xbox and but you have to admit, most of the games are pretty fun like mariokart duble dash and super smash bros melee.

Stop acting like a fanboy. As I said earlier, there is no "best" console. Each has its own advantages and is based on your gaming tastes.
