I've noticed on some forums I've visited (most notably the IMDB) there's a lot of topics that accuse shows of copying other shows.
Now, is it just me, or do these kinds of debates always seem to compare two shows that have nothing in common?
Here's three I see all the time:
"Yu-Gi-Oh is a rip-off of Pokemon!"
Ummm, HOW, exactly?
"Duel Masters is a rip-off of Yu-Gi-Oh!"
There's only one similarity and it isn't even that solid.
"The Life and Times of Juniper Lee rips off American Dragon: Jake Long!"
I have no clue where this one comes from.
So, anyone else wanna name a show that they've seen accused of being a rip-off of another show despite a lack of real similarity?
Oh, feel free to also mention video games, books, movies, or otherwise games and works of fiction that have been accused of being "rip-offs" without a solid basis.

I can see how Juniper Lee and Jake Long connect. A talking dog, their grandparent tutor, a huge crush on someone else, using all kinds of potions and mixtures, ect. But I don't see any others.

I agree but I am trying to figure out which one came out first. Was it Pokemon?

Digimon came first. Just not the Anime.
There's a programme Called "Samerize" (sp) that is often acused of being a power ranger rip off. It's NOT it only has one Main simularty (That things join up) and it's not shown on the show very much.
It's been cancelled sadly... But I have it on Video...

Never heard of it MJN.
So Digimon was created before poke'mon but it just wasn't an anime? I didn't know that.
Um..lets see and b-Daman this new show on Toonami that I like is being said to be a rip off of beyblade.

It's "Beydaman" isn't it? and I don't think it is because it was made by the same people - that would mean that there ripping off them selves.

It's "Beydaman" isn't it? and I don't think it is because it was made by the same people - that would mean that there ripping off them selves. Admittedly, companies DO sometimes make clones of their own shows, in order to try and generate an instant success without much effort. Hanna-Barbera did this a lot in the 1970s. Now as for the Digimon vs. Pokemon arguement someone else brought up, I can't remember if Digimon or Pokemon came first (especially considering that both existed earlier in Japan than they did in America), however it doesn't matter because the two anime have nothing in common anyway, which is really the point of this discussion. You don't disprove a ripoff by looking at which came first, you disprove a ripoff by showing that two shows aren't at all similar.

Digimon is much better anyways.
I think that Howl's Moving Castle the movie is a ripoff of Howl's Moving Castle the book. They have almost nothing in common, and the only same thing about the stroyline is that Sophie is turned old by the Witch of the Waste.........

Kids Next Door is a rip off of Kim Possible. Can't you see the simularities? The spy thing... the recurring villians... uh, the spy thing...

except kim possible is not about an organization of kids joined against adults. other than that, they are completely the same.
