How could you leave out the recorder? It's a real instrument, it's not a toy. I mostly play the bass recorder right now, but I can play most types. It's a really nice sounding instrument.

I left it out cuz in Hong Kong, any kid can play it(or should I mean forced to learn it) so I think it's not pro...but I didn't know there were a few kinds of recorders...

It's the same here. But recorders are supposed to be played with much more skill than that. They can do almost anything a flute can, and in my opinion, they have a better sound as well.
They only have slightly less range than a flute, which is what they can do and recorders can't.
Sorry, but the assumption that recorders are little kiddy instruments really bothers me.

I never regard an instrument kiddy, I just think it's not important, I hardly see it in a concert or hear music played with it.

That's because it's not mainstream. There are concerts where they're played, I've been to a few. I'm in a bass recorder trio.
I think it's more important than a French horn. No offense to people who play French horns.

I think French horns are more important cuz at least they're in the orchestra.

Recorders aren't in orchestras because they're too quiet. That doesn't make them any better or worse.

Is it? I actually think flutes are very quiet. Sometimes I see someone playing the flutes without hearing them.

Only compared to brass. If you have a recorder in the orchestra, it's almost impossible to hear it over the flutes, unles the recorder is having a solo. I used to play the recorder in the school band.

A band has recorder? My primary school is actually good at this instrument, and they have a recorder band, only that I wasn't in. Who ticked the violin in the poll?

I think it's called an ensemble when you're talking about recorders. They only let me play the recorder in the band because I was really good at it.

Who ticked the violin in the poll? Oh. That was me. ^^;; I've been playing the violin since I was four, but actually, I quit this year. I was kind of falling behind the rest of my orchestra (I don't even know how to do vibrato!). And, Clanker, wow, you play the recorder? I've never met anyone who plays it seriously. And that's awesome how you're in a recorder trio. There's a string trio at my school and I'm always jealous of them because they get to play at weddings and stuff.
