Okay here it is! The long awaited oneshot! I really wanted to finish it before Christmas. It's like 4 pages long... But anyway enjoy! Oh and if you can think of a title for this tell me because I want to put this on ff.net.
Okay, here it is:
Numbuh 23 inserted a coin into the vending machine and pressed a red button next to the picture of her desired drink. The machine sounded a few bumps before the can actually hit the bottom. She reached down to grab it and straight away flicked the lid open. Unfortunately all that bumping inside the vending machine caused the drink to bubble and fizz up, leaking out of the top and over her hands. “Ugh.” She groaned, holding the can out so the soda wouldn’t drip on her shoes. When the bubbles calmed down she held the edge of the can to her mouth and sucked the froth from the rim and her hand. She passed the can to her other hand so she could shake dry the one the soda had spilt over. She walked down the corridor of the Kids Next Door Moon Base, making her way slowly towards the lift off area where her ship was waiting to take her back to Sector K. She took a big gulp of her soda, and pulled a face as the bubbles tickled her throat. A blonde boy by the codename Numbuh 35 was walking down the same corridor, shuffling papers in his hands. One slipped and floated down to the floor. “Oh no.” Numbuh 35 muttered, leaning down to grab it. He continued to shuffle his papers, unaware of the soda drinking Numbuh 23 walking towards him and he mindlessly bumped her. “Ahh!” They both exclaimed as the soda spilt all over their shirts and the papers in 35 hands, causing him to drop them. Virginia let out a groan as she pulled on her black top and lifted her leg to shake the soda off it. “I’m so sorry.” Bartie whimpered. “It’s alright Numbuh 35.” She replied with a sigh. “It just hasn’t been my day today.” Bartie ignored her, pulled out tissues from his pocket and started to wipe her shirt. “Hey what are you doing?” She asked, a small blush creeping upon her cheeks due to how close Numbuh 35 had become. “Tissues not gonna do anything. The soda will just soak right through.” Numbuh 35 held up the broken, wet tissue and sighed. “Oh great.” Numbuh 23 groaned. “There’s soda on your paperwork.” She bent down to pick them up and Numbuh 35 followed suit. “It’s okay.” He said, collecting a mass of soda soaked papers. “I can always reprint these.” Numbuh 23 smiled, happy that at least something is going right. They both got up from the floor and faced each other. “Here.” She said, handing him the papers she collected. “Thanks.” He said, taking them from her. His blue eyes met her dark brown eyes and he couldn’t seem to look away. He seemed to lose all trace of reality, continuing to look right at her. “Numbuh 35? Earth to Bartie!” Numbuh 35 snapped out of his daydream by the sound of Numbuh 23’s voice and his cheeks turned bright pink. “Right.” He coughed into his hand, trying to pretend like nothing happened. Numbuh 23 just rolled her eyes and smirked. She turned her eyes to the empty soda can beside her feet and sighed. “I hardly drank half of that.” She said. “What a waste of a dollar.” Guilt hit Bartie right in the stomach. “I’m really sorry.” He said, clutching the papers tight. “I should’ve watched where I was going.” “No, no.” Numbuh 23 protested, waving a hand. “It’s not your fault.” “But there has to be someway to make it up to you?” He asked, a desperate look in his eyes. “What if I buy you another drink?” “Oh Numbuh 35 that’s not nes-” He cut her off. “I know! I’ll take you down to Lime Ricky’s and buy you one. Come on lets go.” “Wha?” Numbuh 23 didn’t have time to finish her sentence as he had grabbed her wrist and dragged her down the corridor.
--
Numbuh 35 had dragged her through the doors of Lime Rickey’s and yet she was still protesting. “Bartie, this isn’t necessary.” She kept complaining. “Yes it is.” He merely said. “Come on.” He sat her down on a table and sat opposite her, giving her a small smile. Numbuh 23 gave in. “Oh okay.” She sighed. “Alright.” Said Bartie cheerfully. “So what do you want?” “Just a cola thanks.” Numbuh 35 hit the table lightly, pushed his chair back and walked to the counter to order. Numbuh 23 watched him, letting go a sigh. Bartie was always a sweetie, even when he didn’t need to be but she guessed it was just in his nature. He came back holding two glasses, one with cola soda and the other with orange. “Here you go Virginia.” He said, placing the cola in front of her. “Thanks.” She said, slightly turning pink at the way he said her name. “No problem.” He sat down and started sucking his soda through the yellow straw. Numbuh 23 followed suit with her own soda, watching intently as it slowly sunk down. Everything was silent between the two for a moment before Bartie couldn’t take it and so started to speak. “What were you doing up at Moon Base anyway?” He asked. Virginia looked up from her drink. “For supplies.” She replied flatly. “Oh?” “Yeah.” She folded her arms on the table. “I needed more supplies for my bombs.” “Oh that’s right.” Bartie said after taking a sip from his drink. “Your specialty is Incendiary Confectionary Munitions.” Virginia nodded. “I ran out of candy, so I went up to Moon Base to collect some more.” Bartie nodded. Virginia gave a half-hearted smile and returned to drinking. He couldn’t help but notice a distressed look on her face and it got him concerned. He leant over the table and placed a hand on her arm. She slightly jumped at the sudden physical contact between the two and eyed his hand suspiciously. “Is everything okay?” He asked concerned. “Yeah.” Virginia lied. She shook her head. “Actually, no.” “Want to talk about it?” Bartie gave her arm a light squeeze, letting her know that he’s here for her. Virginia hesitated but Bartie gave her a certain warm feeling making her feel comfortable and safe in his presence. She took a deep breath and started to speak. “Well you know how I’m in Sector K right?” Bartie nodded. “Well G.L.O.B.A.L. command wants to send me up to Moon Base. They’re quite impressed with my bomb development apparently and want to give me my own forty-meter squared lab to make them.” Bartie blinked a couple of times. “What’s so bad about that?” Virginia shrugged. “Oh nothing. Just that I’ll be leaving Sector K and all my friends. But yeah apart from that it’s all good.” Bartie cringed at the obvious sarcastic tone in her voice and guilt stroke yet again in his stomach. “Oh.” Was all he could think of to say. “Yeah, ‘oh’ indeed.” Virginia snapped. Bartie cringed again and took his hand off her arm and crossed his on the table. “Have you made a decision?” She sighed. “I mean, I’ll have a bigger lab, with extra materials meaning I can make better bombs, but then I’d be leaving my friends back at Sector K.” “So you don’t know yet?” Virginia sighed again. She laid her head facedown on her arms. “Hey.” Bartie comforted, rubbing her shoulder. “You know what sucks?” She said, her voice muffled. Bartie shook his head. “I don’t have a decision. I’ll be leaving my friends whether I like it or not.” “Can’t you talk to Numbuh 362 about this?” He asked. “I did.” She replied. She raised her head and rested her chin on her arms. “She said that the papers were already signed and sent in. If there was anything she could do to change it she would, but there is nothing she can do. Apparently, my sector leader signed it for me. When I asked why he said he thought it’d be best for me. We only have a short time in the Kids Next Door, so I have to seize any opportunity for experience whenever I can and that me going to Moon Base is the best experience I could have.” By this time in her speech, tears started to well up in her eyes. She tried to blink them back, but they were still trying to make their way through so she rubbed away the tears with her fingers, hoping Bartie hadn’t noticed. He did and he became even more concerned for her. “Oh Virginia.” Bartie breathed, rubbing her shoulder. “It’s not easy saying goodbye to your friends I know, but look on the bright side.” Virginia gave him a puzzled look. “Well…” He began. “You’ll have a bigger lab, meaning bigger bombs meaning it’ll be quicker defeating the enemy and…” His voice trailed off and he started to rub the back of his neck. Virginia slowly raised herself from the table till she was sitting upright. “And what?” She asked curiously. Bartie chuckled lightly, a light shade of pink creeping on his cheeks. “Um… you’ll see me more often.” Bartie turned his head away as his face turned a very bright red. Virginia giggled. “Yeah that’s good I suppose.” She said. Bartie turned his head back to her and smiled. ”And you can take me back here more often. Seeing as how I’m going to be around you all the time I figured there’d be a lot more spilt sodas.” Bartie chuckled. “You can count on it.” He winked at her. Virginia smiled shyly, a small blush appearing on her cheeks. “Ready to go?” He asked. “Yeah might as well.” She replied. They both got up from the table and waved Rickey goodbye, making their way to the exit. As soon as they stepped through the doorway, Virginia planted a light peck on Bartie’s cheek. His eyes went wide. “W-what was th-that f-for?” He stammered, his face turning red. Virginia shrugged. “As a thank you.” She stated, smiling sweetly. “For the soda and for listening.” Bartie smiled sincerely. “No problem.” Virginia bit her bottom lip, looking shyly to the ground trying to hide her blush that was creeping upon her face as she shuffled her feet. “Come on.” Bartie said, grabbing her arm. “Let’s go home. “Yeah.” Virginia agreed. They both walked down the sunset lit street, side by side, smiling and laughing over the events of the day. Either of them may not realize yet, but their feelings have changed for each other into something more than just friends. Bartie raised his hand and gently touched the spot on his cheek where Virginia had kissed him. He smiled and sighed. “Hey Bartie?” “Hmm?” He turned to Virginia. “You okay?” “Sure.” He nodded. “Okay then.” Virginia smiled and they continued to walk down the street, into the sunset.

OOOMMMG!!!
People: Gail's gotta lay of the sugar. SERIOUSLY
Vena, I love you
*vena stares at me like im nuts*
haha, joking. BUT, i did live your story. a 23/35 fic is hard to find... if anyone known the link to one at FFnet, tell me please.
I love how sweet and innocent you made barite.
That line really got me. It set me up fpr the rest of his sweetness. *nodds* Plus, I'm a sucker for a well-placed word "whimpered".
I've always loved Barite. even before i knew him, i wished for a twin brother, and i couldn't describe the exact person i was wishing for myself, but then i saw him and i was like OOOMG! And that would mean that Virginia is my sister in law. hehehe. im MY mind.
anyway, for me, you captured him perfectly. that is exactly how i immagine him, and im going to go and write a 23/35 (and 60/362) fic. thankyouverymuch. ^^

He would make a nice boyfriend... And I also want 60 but they're fictional characters and no matter how much we wish they were real they will remain as 2D animated characters on our TV screens...

OK, sorry. Man, you should have seen my face when I typed that... 35/60? I have honesty never thought of that before... Hmm... heh heh... Sorta cute... But I think that 23/35 and 60/362 better. Heheh... 35/60... *smiles a little* It's cute, but I'm not really a shipper of it... Sorry about that head you must hang in shame about. BUT, at least I took it into concideration, and I don't not like it!
