Thanks. ^^
Actually, I'd be finished with the third by now, if not for the fact that I just got a Wii and Twilight Princess is addicting.
In the meantime, RoseofDestiny has given me permission to post her new story here. She wasn't sure if it should go on FF.net (I advised her to postpone a more public publishing, as this could confuse a lot of people and spread the rumor/spoiler out farther), but we already know, so here we go. No title yet, but here's the first chapter by RoseofDestiny.
Leopold groaned, waking to a sandpaper tongue licking at his face, intermittently pausing to meow at him. His brown eyes met the young kitten’s blue eyes, both staring the other down. Leopold laughed, moving the kitten off his chest.
“Meow?” The kitten asked, nuzzling his hand until he had to lift it to pet her. She received the petting happily, pushing herself against his hand. He glanced at the clock on his bedside table. Red numbers turned ominously from 2:30 to 2:31 a.m. He frowned. He’d been up until midnight trying to repair a new 2x4 gun design. And due to the kitten’s early wake up call, he wasn’t sure he’d be able to fall back asleep.
“This is all your fault, Peppermint,” He grumbled. The kitten looked scandalized, suddenly turning from her saccharine that only came on at night, evolving before his eyes back into the uptight creature she was during the day. The moon highlighted her pure white fur, making it turn silver and turning her blue eyes into little blue and silver moons all her own. He frowned. He still did not know why her name was Peppermint. It had merely been on the tag around her neck when he’d found her in his bedroom one morning.
She was one of many in a long line of little gifts that were constantly being left around the house for him. He’d no clue as to the identity of the gift giver…he only knew it was not his mother.
For one, she disliked cats strongly. And often she looked more shocked by the gifts than Leopold felt…and he could sense she was not just acting the part out. Plus they allowed the somewhat larger boy to indulge more than his mother liked to allow him, not that she was unfair in it. His deepest wish was that these random gifts…the little treasures he always kept the wrappers and boxes for…he hoped so much that they were left to him by his father. His mother would neither confirm nor deny his suspicions, constantly changing the subject.
It was the one thing she was never open with him about.
There were often times he woke late in the night, thinking he heard someone in the house. It could not have been his mother - her footsteps were far too light. These were heavy, as though the person or thing walking around had a bit too much weight to deal with easily. He frowned as he let the thoughts run wildly through his head, untying his red ascot, feeling it starting to choke. He hated taking it off, though. It had been the first of the gifts, and his mother had looked…well, both scared and proud when she’d first seen it around Leopold’s neck.
The fear was what unnerved him, though. His mother was a brave woman. He respected her so much for that. Everyone knew her opinions on the president. And her conspiracy theory that the President was, in fact, originally Numbuh 1 of the Kids Next Door.
Leopold had believed his mother immediately, though everyone else scoffed at her. But he knew it wasn’t just because she was his mother. Her words had a strong truth to them, something he couldn’t, at his current age of eight, describe.
His best friend, Shirley Uno - otherwise Vego - actually joined the adults in the opinion of Leopold’s mother. “She’s gone batty,” Vego had once told him. That was the first, and only, time that Leopold ever hit a fellow kid. He and Vego refused to talk to each other for a week after that, but it had eventually subsided. Leopold and Vego had both forgiven each other, but only Vego had forgotten. It was still a sore spot for Leopold.
Leopold was constantly in fear of his mother being taken away. It had been a nightmare of his ever since he’d entered the Kids Next Door and realized that her stories of being Numbuh 5 was, in fact, correct. And the political struggle that could come from that. He did not understand politics, but he understood that if his mother’s voice ever found it’s way to people (and with how loudly and bravely she shouted, it was only a matter of time, in Leopold’s opinion), she would be taken away. He couldn’t fathom what might happen to her after that, and he didn’t want to try.
He’d asked her once to stop. She had smiled, ruffled his hair, and handed him his cap before shaking her head. “No,” she said, “I’m sorry, baby, but this is somethin’ mama’s gotta continue to do. I don’t know what happened, but Numb--President Uno,” the emphasis on the title was pure corrosive acid as she spat it out, “isn’t doing right by kids. If he keeps going, kids could all be under stricter rules than ever…or worse, the whole lot could be delightfulzed,” the pair had both shuddered at the thought.
“Then, mama…” He’d finally happened upon a thought that day that he’d never had before. “At least tell me who daddy is, so I can go find him if everything goes wrong.”
Until that day, he had never concerned himself with who his father was. He wasn’t sure he wanted to know. His mother never talked about him, and she had been so good to Leopold that he’d seen no reason to object to the anonymous father looming in the shadows, or somewhere farther…or closer.
Abigail Lincoln had turned away from him. “Not now. I can’t tell you that now, baby,” She said, before sweeping him up in her arms and hugging him tightly. “One day, though…when it’s time.”
A week later, the first anonymous gift - a box of chocolates - had appeared on Leopold’s dresser. It became a weekly thing soon after, something new always arriving on his dresser or in his bed when he awoke on Friday. It had caused him new questions for his father’s identity, but his mother was too troubled with politics lately for him to try to disturb her. Later, she had said. He could wait until later.
So long as later was not too late.

Wow, huge spoiler for us. ^_^ I like it...I would be asking how we even know if it'll be a Heinrich/5 story if it wasn't that we know Rose....not to mention her opinions on other couples. Still, I like this story. I hope she'll continue. ^_^

Oh, I already know what she's doing with this one. She sort of let it slip.
IMHO, it's going to be as awesome as everything else she does.

Plot bunny:
Many years in the future, Abby is happily raising her son as a single mom. Sorta... Turns out, Heinrich--whom she never married-- is not your typical missing dad. He's around so often, it's not a big deal when he arrives for his weekends with their son. Then one day right before his Spring Break, Leo asks his dad if they can go after... well, some candy treasure thing, since that'll take a few weeks to get, and they've never gone on a REAL candy hunt together. Here's teh twist: Abby's taking those two weeks for her vacation to spend with her son, and he asked her if they could go on a candy hunt together. How surprising when Heinrich arrives just as those two were finished packing for their trip.
Yeah, I could see Leo being a tad on the sneaky side.

So I've been listening to a lot of Avenue Q tonight, since I'd never heard any before, and I can totally see Schadenfreude as a Heinrich and Hoagie "bonding" song.
Does that make me evil?

Hmmm...that depends. Will Heinrich hit Hoagie after the whole "Happiness at the misfortune of others...that IS German!" line? ^_-
More of..yes for Heinrich (sort of good for him..I could see him liking watching others in pain, at least to some degree), but Hoagie...no. He's just too nice.

You think? Probably, but everyone has a dark side.
Maybe him and Abby, then. We KNOW she has a dark side. Miss Hangs-Around-Seedy-Bars-with-Candy-Pirates.

Hey, that could work.
Though I can't imagine any reason for Wally and Heinrich to have a conversation.
