I'm going to throw my one shot Op. MOON in. That's the best fanfic I've done yet, IMHO.
Operation MOON (Moon Only Operates Nocturnally)
Abby noticed Hoagie climbing out into the darkest section of the treehouse again.
"What's that boy find out there that's so darned fascinating?" she said to herself. She decided to find out.
She made her way against the tangle of branches until she reached the tippity top. She looked up at the stretch of Milky Way that covered the sky. "Wow," she breathed in quietly. She looked to the east, where a huge, golden, and completely swollen full moon was rising.
She jumped a little as she saw that same moon reflected in a pair of goggles.
Hoagie snickered. "Whatcha doing up here, Numbuh Five?"
"I wanted to see what was so interesting that makes you scramble up here all the time. It's just beautiful," she said, nodding in the direction of the moon.
"Do you want to see something even more special?" he said. "Look up, just above the moon. See what looks like a huge star?"
"Yeah?"
"It's not a star at all."
"How can you tell?"
"It's not blinking. Stars, of course, give off their own light. Planets only reflect them. That's why they don't seem to twinkle."
"Which planet is it?"
"That's Jupiter. The only planet that's brighter is Venus, but you can only see that just before the sun rises or sets, depending on where Venus is."
They sat there for a while longer, and the moon's golden color cooled into a bluish silver.
"Isn't this something?" Hoagie said. "It looks like the moon is wearing a crown made of one gem. Just going out here and looking for the planets fascinates me."
Abby sighed. "I think I'll stay out here a while longer."
The breeze moved the leaves on the branches a bit, and the two of them watched the procession of twinkling and glowing.
THE END
I think it's an sweet portrayal of their friendship. No gooiness or stickiness allowed. ;D
