Bah, scanners are so darn unreliable. I bet the majority of those who own one have found they don't work when the computer finishes booting. I've had two like that and they were different brands too.
(Usual solution, BTW, for anyone with this problem is to remove the AC power lead from the back of the scanner, boot the machine up and THEN plug the scanner's power lead back in. Worked every time for me).

My scanner always physically works, but most of the time, it messes up whatever it's supposed to be scanning. For example, it'll cut out 98% of the picture or it'll tilt it for no reason at all. It's very annoying. I think that lined paper prevents those things from happening, but I don't like lined paper.

Hmm, I dunno whether the type of paper really comes into it, unless it's really thin paper that the light from the scanner can easily pass through, in which case it might be hard for the image to be picked up. In these kind of scenarios the problem is often due to something being wrong with the driver software. Reinstalling the drivers from the cd that came with the scanner may clear the problem up (or if you don't have a cd, download the driver from the scanner manufacturer's website).
Heh ... I'm studying for professional computer industry certification at the moment, so forgive me for trying out my diagnostic skills on y'all! :-)

I think that lined paper works because it's filled with dark blue horizontal lines. That way, the scanner won't randomly cut off stuff because it picks up all those dark lines. Also, it won't randomly tilt stuff because the horizontal lines suggest that the orientation is correct. That's what I think, but maybe I'm overestimating my scanner's artificial intelligence.
And sorry for getting off-topic, Numbuh 343. ^^;;;;

To get back ON topic then, I just took a look at the picture in question (I hadn't seen it earlier because I have a beta version of Windows XP that doesn't open some links). I thought it was really pretty cool, it's a darn good likeness for sure. :-) The lines give it even more cuteness as well and add to the atmosphere. Not sure why, but then art can be hard to explain logically. You just go with ya feelings about it!
