all right. i'm up for putting up a chapter of my story.
Chapter 3
Eliza was walking through the woods on her usual trail. She has been taking this trail ever since her mother died. It was the perfect place to escape to and let out all of her emotions. She was taking this certain trail because news has reach to the little town that Ben has mysteriously disappeared. She was thinking how he could disappear and why he should. It just didn't make any sense to her at all. Sure the town was in worser shape than it use to. But it became worser ever since he left.
Then, she heard shuffling going on in the distance. At first she thought it was a squirrel, but it was too loud for it to cause. She heard it again. She didn't know where it was coming from. So she decided to follow the sound. She went through the many trees and past by many bushes where the rustling started to get louder and louder. Then it stopped. She was looking around. Straining her ears to see if it'll come back. But it didn't. She was about to head back to the trail until she heard it again. This time, it was near. She started walking at a fast pace.
Then she saw someone with a shirt with ruffs on the wrist and neck, breeches, and stocks covering them sitting at a nearby tree with their head down. She went over to this person and knelled in front of them.
"Excuse me, but are you all right?" she asked. The person looked up at her and she immediately knew who it was. "Ben?"
"Eliza?" said Ben.
"What are you doing out here?"
"What do you think?"
"I don't know. Is it because of how the town has turned out?" She looked into his eyes and they immediately told her that it was yes. "But it's not your fault."
"Of course it is. I'm the one that caused this. So therefore, it was best that I should leave."
"But it wasn't though."
"What do you mean?"
"Exactly what I mean. Ever since you left, a man named Thomas Rush took over things and made the town worser than it was." At that, Ben became angry and got up and started to go at the trail. Eliza followed. "Where are you going?"
"Home."
"I'm coming with you." Ben stopped and turned to her. She stopped in front of her.
"You can't. What if you get hurt?"
"I'll stand outside and wait for you." Ben was too infuriated to argue with her right now.
"OK, but you promise you'll wait for me?"
"Promise." They headed towards the tiny town. On the way, Ben saw the many glares from the townspeople and people sleeping on the street. It was all too quiet. He felt guilty for ruining these people's lives. They went up the hill to the manor. Ben stopped and faced Eliza.
"You wait right here. I'll be right back," he told her. He went through the front door and up the stairs to the office. He went right through it and saw Rush sitting at the desk.
"What have you done to the town!?" Ben shouted.
“Benjamin. Back so soon?” Rush replied with a smug smile on his face.
“Answer the question!” There was a little pause between the two until Rush let out a little laugh.
"I'm making it a respectable place to be in, Benjamin," Rush replied.
"Respectable? People are living on the street because of you!"
"That's the thing, those people that are living there, are the ones that made my life a living hell. But the main question is that, what are you doing here?"
"To regain what I've lost." Rush stared at him and then he started to laugh. "What's so funny?"
"You. You can't just come back and expect everything is all right. And besides, you're the one that left. You abandoned your duties. You even abandoned the town. You can't gain back what you purposely lost. And somebody has to take over this town." Ben glared at him.
"You bastard. How could you trick me?!"
"It was easy. A boy at your age are easy to trick. Guards!" The guards of the manor came in through the door. "Take this boy away." The guards did as they were told and seized him by the arms and threw him out the front door. Eliza raced over to him with worry. She knelled down beside him.
"Are you OK?" she asked with concern.
"No. He took over everything. I can't go back," he said while Eliza was helping him up. There was a long silence until Eliza broke it.
"Well, if you want to, you could stay with me and my brother." Ben thought about it. It was true that he needed a place to stay. He took a look at his old home. He turned back to Eliza and nodded. He followed her down into the town and stopped at a house next to the bakery. They went in and Ben knew that they were in the kitchen. It was small with a table in the center of the room, the cupboards were on the other side of the room and there were two doors. Assuming they lead into the bedrooms.
"You can sleep in Oliver's room. He can sleep with me," she told him. He nodded in reply. "Are you all right?"
"Never better," he said dull fully.
"I know that it's hard. But there's no way that I'm going to let you sleep on the street."
"Thanks." He smiled down at her.
"No problem." She returned the smile. “And don't worry, everything will be back to normal.”
“How do you know?”
“I have a feeling.” He wished he could believe her, but, what was the point. Even if he tried something, it'll all just fall apart.
