Someone else on another forum told me that Ultima Online, in its early days (before the first expansion pack) was more like the kind of MMORPG I was looking for. Sadly the creators dumbed it down to make it more accessible to newbies, but there are custom servers available that emulate the original design.

I used to play runescape but I like quit like year or 2 ago because it just got really stupid after a while because I pretty much beat every quest on there and I was even a member( if your a member you get like 130 quests more now though) and I did every thing else on the game so yeah there wasn't anything to do so I quit playing and give it to my friend who can't be a member so he can't use half the things that guy has so he just goes around scaring noobs with it.
But what I don't get is that this game is really cheap but people on eBay and stuff are like saleing 2 million from that game and people are buying it for 20 or 30 bucks. And some people saleing their guys on their and if they are high levels they get like 500 bucks or more someone even got like 2,000 bucks for his I mean WTF.
