I never even heard of her until I looked into Wicked. Such a fantastic voice...
And if I get the DVD, it'll only be if they include the song they cut from the movie. The Prince Edward/Nancy duet.

I hear ya on not knowing Idina was even in the film. The only reason I knew she was in there at all was because there was an article about her not singing in the film, and then a couple of folks on my LJ friends list also mentioned her not singing. Seriously, though, the marketing does an excellent job of not letting you know about Nancy or Nathaniel (an N-name conspiracy?) which I think works on a certain level, as it makes it more awesome when they show up and you're all "Hey, I didn't know they were in this!" But on the other hand, it's next to impossible to find any images of them (especially Nathaniel ;_; ).
And yeah, I never heard of Idina before Wicked, mostly because when Rent first came out, I was only 12, so I was banned from listening to it, and once I was old enough, I didn't really have any interest in it.

I saw the movie last night (along with Alvin and the Chipmunks and August Rush). I must admit, it was almost everything I expected it to be. A fun Disney film is what it was.
Despite my fulfilled expectations, I wasn't much entertained by it. I expected to love it, but I didn't. It got somewhat boring near the middle. Alan Menken did great with the music, but I still didn't find it as engaging and pleasurable as some people would. Though, I must admit, the villainous Narissa was pretty awesome.
The ending was kind of a non-Disney twist. Anybody would expect her to end up with the prince. I think that would've been more Disney.
I agree with the Pigs' review. The aspect ratio, from the cartoon and the real world, was really bizarre. They obviously couldn't do much to fix it, since that's pretty much the basic plot of the film, but still.
Other than that, it was all right. I can understand its popularity, but I wasn't very much persuaded to recommend it to another Disney fan.

Heh. Well, I guess we have different expectations. Since practically the entire film was apparently inspired by Snow White and a bit of Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and a few others, I got the impression that it would be a prince-and-princess happily-ever-after type scenario.
Ah well. The creaters gave it all they had, and that's what matters.
